Heres a thread about them from 'way back when' from DIYaudio. I get that from the fact that each port piece has a different width, really weird. Where does the sub(s) go? Height is 15" (if it's same one I found, designed for RE XXX 12") Not sure on tuning freq.....would have to be pretty low, with that length of port. Quote '94 Ford Ranger Ext. dcofer Posted September 14, 2011 Report Share Posted September 14, 2011 (edited) That is def an interesting SS designs, must have been specifically for that sub (the way it should be) if I can find the infor I remember getting the design info of of powered4sound for free before it became nolteaudio.com and it was mor like a tapered horn for the crystal audio subs. I built a basic one for a kicker comp a while back and to me came out amazing. Correct, it was allegedly for an RE xxx 12" @ 15" in height. I have no idea about tuning because this is nothing like a regular ported box; it is, from what I understand, something to do with 1/4 wave(which im not sure how that is build to the woofer itself, as I understood it as being install dependant). 1/4 wave was a huge thing and surely still is in the SPL world, and less used in the daily world, but several VERY loud people still use it/build around it, damn over-achievers. The 1/4 Wave or ABCD Theory was a big fad in SPL for quite some time, especially in walled subwoofer systems. With this article I hope to explain what it is, how to calculate it and you can draw your own conclussion from there.In a wall if the port opening is located ¼ of the tuned frequency’s wave length away from the windshield/microphone you gain constructive interference. This occurs because the originating wave (from the port) and the reflected wave (from the windshield) will "mix" with each other at the peaks & troughs of their wave form. This effectively boosts the amplitude (hence volume) of the wave. Thats the theory. lzim1372 Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Share Posted September 15, 2011 i did speak with john nolte last night, this guy is amazing!!! he knows is stuff, but he said he retired from the car audio world and he is now focused on high end speaker enclosures for home theater, he will be helping me out on my build but darn it i really wanted to slap some level 5's in a dual snail port enclosure.......... i myself do not have the right tools to build a good box that is high spl worthy, let alone i am fairly new to the car audio world and dont really know sheet from shineola....but i am soaking everything in!!!
