I was running Hifonics for years and never had a single problem with them.I just pulled a Hifonics BXi 2608D out my Impala and it was running at 1ohm for 2 years and never even overheated or anything. When your on a budget Hifonics is a good brand to go with.

Maybe he got bad luck with his amp, my brutus amps lasted A LOT of time without a single issue, i dunno about the new brz series though, but i understand it´s the same amp right?

Yeah the brz was suppose to be a little better but nothing that you would notice out of the normal aside from case design.

I´ve clamped both models (AP and brutus) and they do rated power if your electrical is good :)
Awesome news... The Brutus has all the power I'm looking for... The question is... is it a quality amp?
you will be very happy wth the britus i have had 3-4 1600 brutus's 1 clamped @1700 @14.6 they are very tough and sound super clean...just be sure to get extra batts if u dont already ahve them cause hifonics only down fall is you need a good elct to run them right...also check amzon thats where i get alot of my hifonics stuff

I have a stock batt, stock 120 amp alternator, and a Gold Plus battery in the back... currently I have like a 1.2 voltage drop (forget, will recheck tomorrow) and no light dimming from my Alpine M-1000... Think I'll need another battery?

my brz1200 has been working for me flawlessly for about 2 months now. diffidently does rated mine hardly gets warm after full tilt for about 20 - 30 min.

Good, good.. :P

That's what I'm hoping...

Thanks for all the help everybody, I'll keep looking around until my next paycheck (next Friday) then go ahead and buy an amp. This Hifonics amp is looking like my best buy as of yet

I have an older brutus 1500 (non CEA compliance) and my AP3k, and i personally like the sq produced from the brutus better. Using same subs swapping between the two amps, i cannot get my ap to play low at a smooth note compare to the brutus. I play with all the setting with no success, still punchy on the low notes. I know its double the power rating and it may not be a fair comparison but does give you an idea. I still have both amps and still hanging on for further testing and use (still on a budget) Although i have to agree that the ap3k is a very powerful amp for the money, i wouldnt recomment it if you're concerning about sound quality too. Now with that being said, i cannot recommend the new brutus either since i have no experience with it.

Okay I did some testing and after 20 minutes at idle my voltage was slowly dropping everywhere.. but that just means I need a bigger alternator >.>

Idle, no audio - Front battery = 14.15 volts. Back battery = 13.05, slowly rises to 13.5 - 13.7 after a minute or 2. (Was playing music on the way to my testing spot)

Idle, full blast - Front battery = 13.85 volts minimum. Back battery = 12.3 volts minimum.

On the Alpine M-1000 itself - On heavy bass dubstep I hit 11 volts quite often, and on the high note in "I luv it by young jeezy" after playing several songs I hit 10.7 volts >.> :( Under normal driving I don't listen to 5 straight songs, or drive at 750 rpm... So I shouldn't ever drop that low.

At least I solved why my amp overheats

I guess I should shoot for the BRZ2400.1D to account for voltage loss?

I have 4 gauge from the front battery to back battery, and everywhere else... I guess I really need a HO alternator, but I can get some decent batteries at cost first... So I'll do that. Is there anyway to get my back battery voltage to match my 14.x volts on the front battery though?

be sure batteries are charged... check ground for loose connection.

btw, I would get that electrical issue resolved before looking into the BRZ2400... just my $0.02

  • 2 weeks later...

Turns out my batteries were just low when I checked them that time... I was playing music all day lol. Voltages are much better now, and voltage climbs up to 14 volts in like 10 seconds from 13.7.

Anyhow, I've ordered The BRZ2400D and 25' of 0 gauge cable... I'll let you all know how it works out...

Thanks for all the help!
