DD1 setting bass amp gains with door speakers powered off headunit

Recommended Posts

Last night I was setting someone's gains on their bass amp with the dd1 and their door speakers were powered by the headunit. When I played the 40hz tone it was being played by the components which I know isn't good for them. Is there any way around this besides unplugging the speakers?

I think that is the only way to do it. Unless there is an option on the HU to fade them out, but I think it'll only fade front or rear. Not both. Unplug em, just to be safe IMO.

Another way I was thinking is what if you faded all to the rear and unplugged the rear speakers because those are the easiest to access? Would this work too?

the best option would be to test the unit without speakers connected at all before complete installation of the headunit

but you can also test the headunits internal amp if you test that way, connecting the positive probe to one of the speaker leads off the headunit. then if you choose to have tweeters/stock speakers still connected you know how high you can go because it will almost always be lower than the distortion point of the rcas
