TLEJ
So I've got some LED's installed in my car, and I had them wired to my remote wire (the one that turns on the amps..) So basically, the LED's would come on whenever the radio was turned on. Well, I've installed some more LED's, and they are all some what dim now. I'm guessing the remote wire doesn't have enough power to power all of them. So, I need a solution. I was thinking about wiring something straight to a battery and putting in a switch. That would work, but I'd rather have something that only allowed the LED's to be on, if the radio was on, (Or car for that matter.., just so I don't accidentally drain my battery.. Kind of like this: Or there might just be a way better way to do this..It's way early in the morning and I might be over-thinking this.. IDK.. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Lbox88
Use a relay in place of the switch and put a switch on it so you can turn it off if need be (Cops ). Edited December 12, 2011 by Lbox88 Quote UBL | Build Log
TLEJ
Oh DUH a relay.. This looks like exactly what I need.. Thanks! Edited December 12, 2011 by TLEJ
Lbox88
Yep, now you got it. Like I said though, think ahead and put a small switch on the signal wire so that if you need to you can shut it off. Quote UBL | Build Log
TLEJ
Should I put a switch before or after the relay? Or does it matter.. Edited December 12, 2011 by TLEJ
Bakerman
In b/w your lights and the relay.
Lbox88
I would say on pin 1 between the relay and your signal source so that when it is off, the relay itself is off and not drawing any power. If it's between the lights and the relay, the relay will always turn on and stay on, drawing power when you don't need it to. baaudio
ya these guys have it right. use a standard relay. pin 85 to remote wire off radio with a switch between deck and relay (this is low amperage so switch doesnt get burnt up), pin 86 to ground, pin 87 to constant (20 amp fuse may be to much for a few leds), and then pin 30 to all the leds. I just got the relay, and I had no clue what any of the numbers meant.. No guide or directions on the box. Thanks! This post is very very helpful.
