(Easy) General Wiring Question

Recommended Posts

So I've got some LED's installed in my car, and I had them wired to my remote wire (the one that turns on the amps..) So basically, the LED's would come on whenever the radio was turned on.

Well, I've installed some more LED's, and they are all some what dim now. I'm guessing the remote wire doesn't have enough power to power all of them. So, I need a solution.

I was thinking about wiring something straight to a battery and putting in a switch. That would work, but I'd rather have something that only allowed the LED's to be on, if the radio was on, (Or car for that matter.., just so I don't accidentally drain my battery..

Kind of like this:

Or there might just be a way better way to do this..It's way early in the morning and I might be over-thinking this.. IDK.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ya these guys have it right. use a standard relay. pin 85 to remote wire off radio with a switch between deck and relay (this is low amperage so switch doesnt get burnt up), pin 86 to ground, pin 87 to constant (20 amp fuse may be to much for a few leds), and then pin 30 to all the leds.

I just got the relay, and I had no clue what any of the numbers meant.. No guide or directions on the box. Thanks! This post is very very helpful.
