Cody7751 Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 I'm planning on getting a 200 amp atlternator for my truck since I can't turn My music all the way up before distortion withoutmy voltage dropping below 12 volts.( I have a stock 100 amp now with a xs power battery) but I was woundering if It could damage my electrical system or battery if I decide to turn off my amps and have 200 amps going straight into my battery with nothing pull any power except my headunit? Quiet Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 HAHAHAHAHA no. Your alt will just not output when the load isn't there. Simple as that. Quote 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.
Cody7751 Posted December 16, 2011 Author Report Posted December 16, 2011 Ok thank I now it was a smart question but I just wanted to make sure Quote
Guest Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 your alt wont output 200 amps all the time. it'll output as much as your car demands, which at one point could be 50 amps, or 150 amps Quote
Miguels Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 why get a 200a alt when you dont need it, your car will do just fine with only the HU thats what the stock alt is good for,no it wont damage your electrical since it will only produce the amparage needed for your electrical Quote my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/
sprkn_ranger Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 The only time a alt will damage anything is if the voltages are way high. Quote Check out my build log! 4 Havocs in a blowthrough http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/187506-sprkn-rangers-blowthrough-build/

Dangrebel Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 (edited) why get a 200a alt when you dont need it, your car will do just fine with only the HU thats what the stock alt is good for,no it wont damage your electrical since it will only produce the amparage needed for your electrical He has amps. He said the voltage drops below 12 volts so he can't turn it up all the way. The OP is asking if when his amps are shut off and the car is running will the 200 amps hurt his battery since there is no load. the 200 amp alt will help solve this problem.
