I've been planning on doing this since I put my equipment in my new car. In all of my research I found it hard to believe that out of the 503,087 9000s produced from 1984-1997 that not a single 9000 owner has yet to do this. I went onto a couple forums and searched for clues on anyone that had done it before, I Googled the crap out of it and even talked to a few of my fellow Saab enthusiasts about it and it seems that no one has done this before. Or if they have done it, they haven't posted anything online about it.

So I will only say that this could potentially be the world's first Saab 9000 dual alternator setup. Granted it is only 2 stock 110 amp alternators, but it has to count for something, right?

The top of the alternator's pulley is about three inches lower than where the top of the A/C pump's pulley was. This caused the belt to hit the rather bulky aluminum upper tensioner bracket, so a friend and I fabricated a new one up out of 3/16 hot rolled steel. Now the belt has about 1/4 inch of clearance.

The 'brackets' were simply made out of 3/16 x 1 hot rolled steel bar. It didn't have to be pretty, it just had to be solid. There isn't much room to work with, or many bolt holes to mount the brackets to so I just did whatever worked.

Now I can play music at full tilt all day long and my SAZ-3000D rarely has to see battery resting voltage anymore. During the day tomorrow I will take some pics and post up a build log of my 'temporary' setup that this is a part of.

Looks good.. What ever happened with your friends Exploder? I remember you guys were planing on putting a second alt in that? I never saw anything else about it.

His 270 amp Mechman alternator kept that thing seeing 14 volts all day, so no need for a second alt with just one SAZ-3000D. One day we had it cranked and heard a bad rattling noise coming from the sub and pulled it out and the dustcap had blown off and took a big chunk of the cone with it so it had to be reconed, and he never bought a recone. Then he decided to join the marines and sold me his amp. He doesn't seem to want to get rid of the level 5 though, not sure what he's got planned for later.
