nbshazeezee Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 I have a single 12 inch HDC 3 subwoofer. I want to get louder. but i like the single woofer setupd. MY amp is a AQ 2200. run great. My question is what should i do? there are a few things that i want to do. What would yall rather see? Should i get another HDC3 12? should i sell it and get 2 skar 12's? Or should i buy a 15 suboowoofer with greater power handling. ktraughb Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 its a toss up. just adding cone area properly can gain output, assuming its in a way to avoid cancellation. adding a second 12 is more cone than a single 15, but efficiency and box design can also greatly increase output, even if you went to a single 15, especially if you move to a sub with more motor strength. there are instances that even without a change in power, simply more motor force can help spl potential. not always, but i have seen it. my personal opinion, i like more cone area. id go with 2 12s, maybe even 2 other ones that can efficiently make use of the 2200 watts you have. 2200 watts can produce some respectable spl in the right design. I have had lower power 15s on a 1k amp, then went to a level 4 15 on the same amp and was louder, way louder (in reality this doesn't have much relevance because all applications are different, but in my case 1 higher power 15 was yummy.)
