FroznBeavrBALLs
ppg is a good brand from what ive heard, im looking at doing the same and was told by a freind that has 40+ years in autbody repair that most local part stores should seel paint kits that will include all the primer paint and clear you need to paint a whole car/truck. ok I guess i have to go out and search for good paint stores at some point. Again this probably wont happen until the end of the semester. i just want to learn as much as i can before as to not waist time and money. Cortez (guy on here) actually just recently painted his Mustang and when he saw this thread he texted me about it and gave me some pointers on everything. sounds like its going to be a longer process than i thought it would be. lol... but im up for the challenge. You can do it! U should practice holding a 10 weight extended and walk back and forth with ur hand outstreached so u build up a fitness to it First few days paint I was so tired shouldn't have gotten the quart and a half paint gun lol haha this might be a dumb question but do i need to clean the gun every time its empty? and am i going to need to be mixing colors? (i want to do the hood/top/trunk black, and everything else like a gun metal gray) If i do need to mix colors do i mix a big batch or like every time i fill the gun? 2 DC 12" lvl 4s 1 DC 1.2k XS Power S3400 big 3 Alll KNU wire Pioneer HU cheapo Legacy coaxes (just for now) http://www.stevemead...n-sentra-build/

No need to clean the gun each time before a refill, only when you switch from each color and clear. Also you just mix 1 batch and fill the gun as needed, just make sure give it another stir. Rell
What compressor do you have? Specs? Do you have something setup to cool the air and trap water? Painting at home in your garage? Game plan for a temp booth with filters, fans, lighting etc. Good booth setup will be key in your paints finish and keeping your neighbors from complaining about the smell. I was planing on putting up one of these (but bigger) in my backyard http://www.sunponyranch.com/images/Tent-Ours1.jpg and laying plastic on the ground before rolling the car in and completely sealing it up. i can work out some fans and heat lamps and lighting and what not. Thats not a problem. What temps are better to paint in? cooler or warmer? 2 DC 12" lvl 4s 1 DC 1.2k XS Power S3400 big 3 Alll KNU wire Pioneer HU cheapo Legacy coaxes (just for now) http://www.stevemead...n-sentra-build/

TheSamoan
Sherm sprays almost exactly like PPG... when I went to school for refinishing I used PPG and now I spray Sherm... both good haven't used products like House of Kolor, sikkens, ect.. all i know is ppg and sherm give great results as for guns i personally use 3 Satas.. Prime,Surface/Base,Clear. Satas can get a little pricy i know the painter i work with uses DevilBiss which sprays real nice (used his before purchasing mine) and its farely cheap....as for temp it depends on the reducer/stabalizer you use.. i like the booth or whatever around 81 degrees but be careful because if you use a high temp reducer and your painting in a cold area your panel is subject to a better chance of sagging and running and if you use a lower temp reducer in a hotter area your paint/clear is going to want to set up in the air before hitting the car so it'll look furry .. and for cleaning your gun every time depends on what you mean every time...switching from base to clear yes (dont want base in your clear), base to base no... as i was telling someone else if you have maybe a spare fender, hood, something i would practice on that at home in the environment you are spraying in... just remember prep is the most important step make sure you clean REALLY well and good luck to ya man SPRAY ON! AMI CUSTOMS
Devilbiss Those are the guns I use, best for the money. And for a strong decent paint job that is cheap, use du pont paint, and just go to an auto body paint supply shop, they will have everything you will need, not Home depot, lowes, sherwin williams, those are all home based, not AUTO.
