fox_racin4
Si, ive been thinking about this the last coue days, and cant seem to think of the answer. When a sub starts to unload (or playing far under tunning but still not hitting mechanical limits) why does it heat up? Wouldnt more xmax cool the coil better? fox_racin4
on paper the box is tuned to "41hz" but becase of lack of power ( 500rms per clammped ) i dont have a problem playing down to 27hzish but after a few min they get warm, ( they do move quite a bit.. but dont hit mech. limit ) if i stay around box tunning ( 41hz) i dont have any issues! bkolfo4
Playing below tuning does not thermally blow the sub, it rips it apart mechanically if you have enough power. Like playing it free air. fox_racin4
i dont hit hte mechanical "limit" just seems to get warmer faster Quote 1998 gmc extd cab 12 crossfire C710s 4 SAZ-4500s 3 Singer 400A altsbuncha mids/highs Team Asshole
bkolfo4
You are throwing more power into it when you are playing the lower frequencies. 87regal
If you could look at your impedance profile it might answer this question.(maybe less box rise/more power)
Joe X
What amp and subs are those?? Also to reach a conclusion you need to control your variables very well, don't know if you are doing those tests with a signal generator or what. bkolfo4
If you could look at your impedance profile it might answer this question.(maybe less box rise/more power) That is why I said more power Quote Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz. Dangrebel
If the amp is clipping it will show more on the lows hence the heating up. Lower notes have more average power I believe. fox_racin4
ill be lengthening port/shrinking box volume.. when i double the power..again!!
