After displacements you should be fine for either setup unless you go crazy on the bracing and then may be a little small for an 18

Edit, another thing to take in account if you do a single 18 yes you would have have the wow factor of it for a little while, but soon after that starts to die away you will just want to be louder and not care what size driver you have..

2 12s is a bit less cone but i'd go with that if loudness is your only factor. nasty lows are more dependent on box than sub size.

honestly i'd rather say spend a bit more and get a single 18 sp4 or N2 on 2k if you're sticking with fi. but that's my preference.

Very true, but let me throw this out there: You need less port length to tune low with an 18" box (say 6 cuft net) vs a box for 2 12s (say 4 cuft net). Shorter port length will yield a gain in efficiency too.

The 18 would require a larger port, so the shorter port theory may not be true.

Why is the shorter port more efficient? I have never heard anyone say this. Is there theory or math behind that statement to back it up? Not being an a$$, just curious.

IMO I look at it this way, you may have a smidgen more in come area but half the power, therefore your over all output may not be as optimal as you would like. Under perfect circumstances and perfectly build boxes for the both and a chargin system to hold 2kw I say the 2 12s would be more to my liking which is more output

Yea that's wat I was thinking but after looking for an altnator, there is almost no choose for my car unless I do custom, powerbastards r the only 1s with anything for my car. :/

X2 can you elaborate on that a little bit? Only thing I could think of where as the length isnt as long it would be less the port has to "control" the sound waves and would affect the louding on the woofer.. But idk

What kind of amp are you using? The RMS of the subs doesn't matter if the amp is only going to be 1000wrms max. If it is only 1000w rms, having two 12's that are requiring 1000 each would be way underpowered. I heard FI can eat power like a mofo, so I'd even send a little over rms.

As far as which gets lower, you really can't say. I have a 12" that sounds absolutely amazing and hits the lows that I can't even hear on my 15". It's all about enclosure design. People have hit in the 150's with 8 15's.... And then there's others that have the same numbers with a single 18". I don't know if I missed it, but I didn't see if you specified whether you want it to be loud as hell, or if you want it to sound musically eargasmic.

As for wow factor, yes, an 18" is more.... exotic you could say... But if you're skilled enough, you can make an enclosure for 2 12's look super clean, and really nice.
