Cone area vs power

Hey guys I'm lookin into gettin a new system, but I'm curious. Is cone area or power that makes a system loud? I'm thinking either 2 ssd 12's or 1 ssd 18. I got the room for both but am curious which would b louder. The 12's would have 2000 rms and 18 would have 1000. Which would u guys go with?

two 12's does NOT have more cone area.

2 12s is less cone area than an 18. And 12s can get low.

2 12s is a bit less cone but i'd go with that if loudness is your only factor. nasty lows are more dependent on box than sub size.

honestly i'd rather say spend a bit more and get a single 18 sp4 or N2 on 2k if you're sticking with fi. but that's my preference.

Theoretically both (doubling cone area / double power) will get you +3dB but there are sooo many factors that its hard to predict absolutely.

Roughly:

Pi*R^2 for a 12 = 113in^2. Two 12's = 226in^2.

For an 18 = 254in^2

So the 18 actually has more cone area surprisingly.

I'd say go with what you like better.

1 bigass 18 is way sicker than 2 tiny 12s

IMO I look at it this way, you may have a smidgen more in come area but half the power, therefore your over all output may not be as optimal as you would like. Under perfect circumstances and perfectly build boxes for the both and a chargin system to hold 2kw I say the 2 12s would be more to my liking which is more output

Ok guys, just some FYI, I got 6 cubes to work with, can b a lil bigger though. That's the low end of the ported recommendations from FI. I think it will b ok, wat do u guys think?

18 > 12. 12s are more common, and 18s aren't as common, but getting there. And don't forget its all box dependent too.
