If I put up pics people will take me design and make it before I can. I'm looking at starting a company. Once the patent process is started that I can post up pics of it. Till then its top secrect. Only suppliers and a select few will know what's going on. Cause I am asking their input on some of the options that will be available on my subs. And then they will still not have all the details.

I think the SA-8v2 is going to set the bar pretty high, and do it at a pretty reasonable price. That is definitely the sub to beat, how will they compare performance wise?

I understand the funding trying to make a prototype sub! I made my own at one point, basically just a big Franken-woofer with a bunch of parts from other subs. ***Didn't get the chance to put a patent on it I did make my own custom stamped basket and spider landing though! A 5-spoke 4 leaf clover basket, the way the clovers were shaped added a serious amount of cooling to the thing. I'll try to dig up some pics of it if I can find them.

As for the security of ownership... My entrepreneur teacher told me if I was worried someone would steal my project, I could write/type the idea or basic concept down, print it, and get some form of stamping with a date so if someone tried to steal it, I could take them to court and show them the official date I came up with the idea. I don't know if there's other ways, but it seems like it would work. Lol

Edit: ***Didn't get a chance to patent after the final outcome. I did end up winding my own coil on my own former, I used a pretty nice pair of eBay spiders and leadwires and sandwiched them between the two spiders. So about 60% of the sub I hand made.

How would an 8 like that with a large coil even have a capable suspension to handle the throw??

It seems like its very limited? Or am I wrong?

What I've always wanted to see with an 8" sub is a larger coil of course. Automatically people say the spider would be too limited, but nobody has ever developed a way to go from the diameter of the coil, to a smaller diameter above the coil to allow for a larger spider with more potential for travel.

There are lots of things you can do -- but typically at a price much higher than what the 8" sub market calls for in order to hit good sales volume. I've got a list of ideas for high throw and/or power handling 8s that probably won't make market due to pricing concerns.

If someone wants to make a niche product and sell smaller quantity then that opens up alot of possibilities.

A bit late on the response, but yeah man(on my part, not yours). I know for a fact that niche markets can prosper. In the printing industry niche markets make up a large portion of the total industry, and considering printing is in the top 10 industries in the US that's a pretty good feat.
