Box for Fi BTL 18

Recommended Posts

Well I have this big beautiful Fi BTL 18 i picked up for 180 bucks the other day, sitting in my room waiting for a box... I don't have much knowledge with Fi woofers. What tuning should I go with? What type of wood? and should I choose aero ports over slot ports? The BTL is going in my everyday driver so I want it to slam, and still sound good. Any suggestions would be awesome!! Thanks!!! btw im new to the SMD forums!

What vehicle? How much power you gonna have for the sub? And MDF wood would be good enough.

How do the Japanese feel about bass?

You know that since 03/11/11

Progene? I just saw that stuff on CNN. They said it makes your junk shrink all up. lol.

im pretty sure the op wont even notice if it gets even smaller.

6.5-7 cuft, tuned to 32-34 Hz. 80-100 sqin of port. Makes a great daily box.

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

For $180? I would make sure its a BTL first off.

What kind of power?

It's a BTL alright, got it off some guy on craigslist who didnt know what he had lol. Its practically brand new!!! Guess finding good stuff for a cheap price just takes a little time lol

From what Ive been reading that's the specs that BTL's love. What about aero ports though? I don't have a TON of space to work with. I'm trying to get the maximum amount of airspace I can to make it sound best. Would you recommend them?

You could do a couple of 6" aeros or 4 4" aeros to save space.

Either setup would need to be 17" long, so you need 21"-23" of depth if you go that route.
