2 subs 1 shared port. double port area?

Recommended Posts

Title pretty much says all. I'm gonna be putting 2 15's in a box running them off mono amp. Box will look like what is the default image on the RE audio box part of the website. Question is when doing so, obviously the cubic feet will get doubled for 2 subs. But how does having 2 subs effect the port? What do I change with the specs in order to tune it for 2 subs?

Double the area and then calculate the required length.

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

so basically if i was tuning it to lets say 30hz with the re audio box calc, wouldnt all i have to do is just adjust the port to 60 hz? or is my logic backwards?

umm, you want the port to be more of in the 30-38hz range with 14-16 sq inches of port per sq foot of box for a slot port and i think it was 9-13 for aero ports

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

yea i know but it just seems like common sense if you were to double port area, in turn, youd double hz. but i think im wrong.

If you are doubling the airspace you need to put a second port that is *identical* to the one previously used, if you want a single port you have double the area and recalculate the port length to the tuning of the previous one.

Also the last time I checked the RE calculator had obvious flaws, work with the Torres claculator wich is free and is more accurate.
