thirdchances
I have seen a lot of the subs which can take a lot of power use 4" coils instead of 3" or 2.5" and this seems to allow them to take more power. Is there any reason why there isnt a 5" coil sub or is anyone working on one? Sorry for my noob-ness.

DylanH
I'm assuming with anything bigger than a 4" coil the spider is going to have to be huge. I could easily be wrong though. Plus 4" coils will do what most people want them too http://www.youtube.c...er/SmallTownSPL 2002 Chevy Blazer Substage: Shhh, its a secret Mids and Highs: Stock-Going to change soon Amp:MTX 92001 Wire:1/0 Welding cable Electrical:Stock http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 I hope she was meaning that to you. pa-pa-platypus
honestly im sure theres more to it..but cost would prolly be a big a reason..4 inch subs are generally more expensive than 3inch coils.. thus i would think the 5inch would be more..could be wrong tho just my thoughts..and i think DD was coming out with a 6inch coil (could still be wrong dont know) but the price was too outrageous nobody would buy it lol This isn't teeball. STEvil
There's 21" subs with 6" coils. MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed. ChevyBoy95
there are 6in coils, just few of them. standard sizes are 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and that's about it. you also have to account for what the coil is made of and how many layers. alum v. copper, 4 layer v. 8 layer, former, cooling, etc. Best Score to Date : 160.5 dB Outlaw (47Hz)[4 XM 15's & 2 Taramps Bass 12k's] BL : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/147800-chevyboy95s-4-15s-7krms-wall-1533-db-on-half-power/YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/hitemwiththeflex/

Emmet
Cost aswell... just even for the setup, with the power some people run to subs with 4 inch coils, you`d have to have real deep pockets to power a sub with a coil that size.... i shook this one kids hand and it just folded in mine. long story short i fucked his girlfriendso.. yeah..
