c0dy Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Hey all, What do any of you system builders use to determine the proper internal volume needed for enclosures when you're fiberglassing them up for regular speakers (for example, in doors)? The reason I ask: My car has 5.25"s all around, and I have an RF P3 12" for bass. I can't get too much midbass out of 5.25"s, and I'm looking to add an amped set of either 6.5"s or 6x9"s. I was thinking of adding a P2 8" (I just put one in my friend's truck, which is kind of what made me start itching to do this), but I am looking to keep the trunk space. The setup I'd like to do is to have them sit in the "privacy cover" that goes across my hatch so people can't see what's in my trunk. I know that just leaving them open air with a full trunk won't do much good, so I'm going to build a box for each speaker to sit under the privacy cover. When I've built sub boxes, they always come with a Vb - but I haven't found this on speakers (specifically, I'm looking at something like the RF T1692's). Since the manual on them doesn't give a Vb, what else can I go off of? Is there an equation I can plug the specs that I DO have into? Thanks in advance! KillaCam Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 In doors there's really no need for an enclosure besides protection from rain. An enclosure is really not needed for mids/highs at all. I wouldn't worry about an enclosure for the five and a quarters or the 6.5's Just the p2 8 if you're tuning it for midbass And the fact more than one person agrees does not make it a circle jerk, it makes it a bukkake scene and you're in the middle Chick took 3 shots of Jager, and then, pissed in my mouth.. I am mainly using the new speakers for their midbass abilities (the fact that it's another set of high's is just a plus). You think that my speakers being open air to my trunk will still provide a reasonable amount of bass? I would go with the P2 8, because I know it would hit where I want - but I want to keep the room in the trunk and not have a 12" and 8" in there (I have a pretty small trunk - I previously had two of the P3 12"s and got rid of one for space savings). Hopefully that makes sense... Do you mean have them in the rear deck with the motor down towards the trunk? Also to use the 8 as midbass I wouldn't put it in the trunk with your other sub. I would rebuild the rear deck with an enclosure underneath for the 8 so it's completely sealed off from the trunk. Please forget that I mentioned the 8 - that was a side note just saying that that's the freq range I'm looking to add some oomph to., I'm not adding one to my system. The "privacy screen" I'm putting them in is similar to the one in this picture: http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/kingdoms_rsx/P1040744.jpg I would have the speaker face up, so the tweeter would also be facing the inside of the cabin. EDIT: I didn't realize the picture I linked to had cloth for the middle. Mine is like that, except it's a sturdier material that can hold the weight of the speakers. My best bet would be to buy a bunch of 1/2 in" wood and make a bunch of boxes and try them out, find which is the best. mlstrass Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 the 6.5's/6x9's you mentioned won't add any midbass to speak, IB or in an enclosure. Run a dedicated midbass if that's what you want...
