fiberglass enclosure question.

Recommended Posts

Okay so I'm going to attempt a couple of fiberglass enclosures in my camaro, my question is if it's okay that the entire enclosure is made of fiberglass? allot of tutorials I've seen have a 3/4 mdf base with the face being fiberglass only. I don't want to compromise the structural integrity of the box if the mdf box can take more of a beating than the all fiberglass box.

its just easier to get a base with the mdf. you can build completely out of glass if oyu want. build it strong.

this, make sure you use a good amount of resin and mat, the mat is what gives it the strength, you could throw a bit of bracing in there too if your worred about it, just make sure you watch for warping

Why would you EVER WANT flex?
huh?...flex is what can make the lows lower and more air being pushed correct?

not really that MDF can take more of a beating.....but if you have a decent sized flat section (such as the base you described) its just easier to use instead of wasting more money/time on building it out of glass.

edit: damn double ninja.....way too long to post buzzed....

gotcha, the fiberglass will be atleast 3/4s of an inch thick with a roller squeezing out the air pockets

jesus man! what do you plan on running? 3/4" for glass is pretty damn thick and gonna get expensive

i would just use 3/4 birch as a base. its strong and a whole lot cheaper than glassing an entire trunk
