I have em all but in all honesty if you just be more wary of who you reply to you can keep your email and just make the password more difficult.

The problem most likely occured when you opened the email. If you dont know who it's from or it looks suspicious DONT open it. For all you know, they could be keylogging you and phishing your computer. I wouldn't make any purchases on your computer just to be safe. And check any programs that have been recently modified. If your sending emails to family or friends, they could potentially be receiving the same thing.

Windows Vista or better would have stopped any programs from being modified without his consent and by replying he just opened a hole allowing his saved passwords or saved login to be exploited and found out, that's all. Most of the time those spam bots only use your email to spam your contacts. Unless you just click yes to everything Windows asks you would have caught something trying to download itself.

gmail there are others out there but gmail seems to have their shit together so far.

Shit....alright!! Well, I guess I can either switch or worry about this shit happening again. It's gonna suck switching everything to a new address, but.....fuck!

I would run virus scans and be sure new programs or random stuff doesnt pop up

Just keep your yahoo addy but start using a new one from a different company as the new main and let the yahoo become the spam hole for things your not quite sure on, that's what i have done so thing's outside of doing business it all goes to yahoo.

My Gmail got hacked a while back. Sent all my contacts a link that led them to a site selling extenz or viagra. Was kinda funny at the time, but gmail locked my account down and I had to jump a couple hoops to get back in, but been fine since.

This kind of thing started to happen to me cause my contacts keep emailing saying did you try sending something to me cause with yahoo if it doesnt go through it comesback saying it couldnt send.. so now I change my password every few weeks.. I would change emails but its just a hassle and all my person info goes to that email

Just so you all know hotmail is also flawed. There was someone that called up hotmail services and pretended to be me and provided my ipaddress and everything and hotmail just easily handed him over my password.
