Recone Questions??

Recommended Posts

I'm about to do my recones right now and I have a couple last minute questions. I already have them all cleaned and prepped and ready to go.

People who use goop, are you using it per the package instructions? Apply it to both surfaces then clamping them together after they are tacky?

People who use rubber glue, do ypou spread it around the surround with your finger, or just lay a bead and let the clamps spread it.

I know this sounds monor, but I'm just a bit ocd when it comes to doing shit the right way.

I have CA for the spider...are you saying I should use CA for the surround and dust cap as well? Sitting here in front of me I have CA, accelerator, goop, and black rubber glue.

the spider landing is at least a must for it. I tend to use the same glue for all of it.

I hate to sound like a complete noob, but the accelerator will work through the foam? I don't fully understand the chemistry of CA, but is it not necessary for the accelerator to come into physical contact with the CA?

I just lay a good solid bead and rotate my clamps every 20-30 minutes or so to make sure all of the glue gets an even spread. I use CA water-based adhesive my supplier makes, works incredible and I can use it for the spider landing, surround to cone, surround to basket, and dust cap to cone. Really nice stuff and doesn't cure extremely hard like a lot of adhesives.

Spiders - CA

Surround - CA

Dustcap - Rubber

on spiders and surround i lay a bead of CA and get a pop sickle stick or something to widen the bead a bit to make sure 100% contact. On dustcap i put some rubber on the cap's surface that will touch the cone (some do on the cone first) and spread it a bit with my finger and use a tape loop to place it in the center then put a weight on it.
