New box = noise?

Recommended Posts

I just put my new box in today 16" ft3 port @ 36hz.. it all hit real hard n sounded great way better than my old box, but now when i turn the volume up to bout 20 / 45 theirs like apopping type of noise itl b doing , kind of like if ur sub trys and play under tuning or reaaall bad clipping, my port is along the bottom of the box....could this noise be coming from port hitting the trunk? i meen the box sits 2" away from the end of the trunk . Any help would be great

How wide is your port? Did you brace it? It might just be flexing and slapping against the floor.

ok here are my box specs, 16" tall.. with double baffle .75" mdf... 28" wide and 30" deep, port is 26.5" wide and 26" deep which is roughly 36 hz. port isn't braced, i never did on my old box, but that was also vertical not horizantal like the new box

could be subs bottoming out!!! i built a box for a buddy of mine once, beast of a box ported to 32hz, no problems with the box and like you when volume turned up just over half, hella popping-scary noise!!! i tested all the voice coils(came back fine) and the amp gain was barely up with a little bass boost. the subs were brand new from kicker(compvx's, the best ones they make). i sent them back to kicker and got new subs, put them in and no more noise(i did upgrade to 8 gauge for the sub wiring too, i did have 12 gauge, so that might of helped). but before i sent the subs back, i did some research on the web and all came back to subs bottoming out. in my case i think the first batch of subs had a default in the construction...

it shouldnt be that the , they are barely hitting at that volume! oh and when i was swapping the sub from the old box i could see probly half an inch of the coil.. and it was like the color of a raisin kinda of browinish darker, not like copper....... i don't remember it coming like that
