beaker
Nice setup, should sound better with matching subs. I got a nice 500 watt RMS @ 4ohm amp (plate amp from parts express) running an old MTX 15 in a 15.5 cu box tuned to 20 hz. Shakes the whole damn house, I can only image what Meades towers do to his shop. Oh and the Sub is 8 ohm so its only getting about 250 watts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tURqvjVYEZE

That and the cuts where easier That's way too big for a 15" sub, even 18" subs require 4-8 cubes. If you put it in a 3cf. box tuned to your mid to low 30's, it probably wouldn't sound like ass. *Rebuid in progress*
beaker
It doesnt sound like ass. Ideal box according to winISD with a flat response down to 20 hz is like 70 cu ft. The higher box size lets it get louder and lower frequencies with less wattage. The response curve also doesnt peak at 40 hz like it would if I tuned it to 32 hz. If it where in a car, cabin gain would help with response below 32 hz, but its in a huge theater room, and I didnt want to have to put 1000 watts to it to get sound out of it. I designed it to play the LFE's in movies, and be flat on music and it does that well.
snafu
Guys, keep in mind that there is no "cabin gain" in a large room so the cabinet size will reflect that. Research the topic and become educated. Small home subwoofers are typically in sealed enclosures and utilize a BUNCH of equalization to get flat response to 20Hz and that takes a BUNCH of power as well as a driver that has considerable excursion capability. Quiet
Yeah, building an enclosure for a sub in a car is completely different than building one for the house. Take your sub out of your car and play it in your house and watch your lowz disappear... 15 cubes tuned to 20 sounds about right for his setup. I bet he gets nice output around 20hz, much better than a 15 in 4 cubes. 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.
beaker
Yeah, I paid 10$ for that sub and got the plate amp on sale for 99. MDF was about 40$ so 150$ for something that plays loud all the way down to 20 hz is pretty sweet. You could do the same with a 12 if you wanted, might even sound better. I do need to put some fiberfill on the walls of the enclosure, at super high volume I start to get some cancelation.
