I listen to mostly Metal & Hard Rock, some Classic Rock & Electronic, and on very rare occasions I'll listen to rap and dubstep.

Vehicle is an 1998 Mercury Mountaineer, AWD 5.0 V8. I think it has tons of potential.

Headunit: Alpine CDA-105

Mids/Highs Amp: Boss "1600 Watt" 4 channel

Mids/Highs: Pyle Blue 6x8's in all 4 doors (better than stock...)

Sub Amp: Sundown SAE1200D

Sub: 1 Obsidian 15 (NEW 6/9/12)

^ In a temporary box 8cu.ft. tuned to 14hz with a 4" aeroport. It's my roommates HT box.

Started the box build for 2 15's 6/12/12, and ordering the 2nd 15 on 6/21/12.

Old Equipment:

Sub: TC Sounds Epic 10"

Enclosure: 2cu.ft. tuned to 28hz.

Box is wrapped! Check out post 7!

I want to eventually have a decent system in there. I'm thinking of getting a Sundown 4-channel, 2 Obsidian 18's, and I'm still undecided on what components I want, maybe a set of Image Dynamics, RE XXX's, or RF T2's or T3's

This is here mostly for my own reference, so that I don't have to remeasure again:

Plastic molding on floor in from of hatch, edge where carpet stops to hatch: 3.5"

Top of Rear Seat to edge of plastic molding: 36"

Bottom of rear seat to plastic molding: 38"

Inside wheel well to inside wheel well: 42"

Floor to top of rear seat (at a 90' angle, not length of the back of seat): 19"

Door opening width (Thinnest point): 47"

Door opening Height: 33"

Inside wheel well to side panel: 4.5"

Height of floor to roof (Highest Point): 36"

And for shits and giggles, Top of front seat(Fully reclined) to edge of rear trim: 65"

Good start I would dump that Boss amp as soon as possible and your choice of mids/highs later sound like a good direction to take. To post images in the thread use the img code on photobucket and copy/paste it.

Finally got the time to wrap my box!

It was my first time wrapping a box. I don't think I did too bad! I also took off the inside flare, shortening it and tuning it to ~30 Hz instead of ~26-28 hz.

  • 1 month later...

My roommates Dayton Classic 15 vs my new Obsidian 15. :)

Waay too big a box, 8cu.ft. tuned to 14hz with a 4" aeroport. It's louder than my 10, and sounds pretty good! It'll do for 2 weeks or so
