how to properly break in a sub?

for the most part, break-in is a bogus term used by manufacturers as a way to get out of warrantying subs that break.

The only thing I don't do with a new sub or freshly reconed sub is play under or close to tuning full tilt for a week or so. Everything else I just let it rip.

Well, for installs where I know the drivers are going to receive more than rated and will be beaten on relentlessly right out the gate, I'll wire them up and let them play 20hz free air for several hours. I steadily increase the volume til they're close to xmax. But most all installs its completely unnecessary. I'm doing a build with 6 SSA ZCONS with extra spiders that I'll break in prior to install, but that's a really big build that's going to see some abuse.

1: unpack your sub from box/shipping crate.

2: put correct wires into sub, being chiral to amp.

3: put sub in box.

4: turn on head unit.

5: turn volume knob +

5: make sure your bass knob is full tilt.

Step 3. Listen to music

I thought step 1 was "cut a hole in the box" and step 2 was "put your junk in the box".
