My Box Builds

LOL @ reps.

I would start off by making sure all your edges meet up and don't overlap. Also work on making straight cuts. Practice on the carpet and quit using the cheapest quality carpet you can find. I personally hate when someone sells a box and can't even cover it or at least paint it. Simple stuff like a flush mount and double baffles should be your standard. Don't think 45's are the end all to adding db's, it's not. Learn to roundover your edges.

Oh and quit using caulking like frosting, you are making a box not a cake.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

Lol. Love the caulk comment :)

Thanks for the advise, king. I gotta practice on putting carpet on...for I fairly am not good at it. I'm thinking I'm getting the hang of it now though...as I pick up a few tricks here and there.

I just got my sander working again and I gotta get the bits for my router....then I shouldn't have a problem...hopefully.

Learned a lot from using wood filler and sanding down the crack (to make it look like one big box) to calculating everything. I'm thankful for SMD and all it has taught me so far. and still learning :)

Towards CVX: I know how to cut 45s :( What happened with the rockford box was that I over cut the side pieces and before I figured that out...it was too late, so I ended up doing 45s on the edge and it kinda looked cool, the guy I did it for was really impressed by it and ended up giving me an extra $7 for it. Learned my lesson to check the whole box before putting it together, newbie mistake.

i dont like carpeting either, ive come a long way but i really dont like to carpet lol.

Id say buy a router it makes things just look more finished. and on the large boxes like the 8 12 one make sure your ratios are in line design wise the port looked a little iffy, but it may be just the pic. if you get serious and wanna bust them out, get a stapler as well. it makes things MUCH faster then screwing panels together.

Oh yeah, I always have my air gun on these projects. I normally air gun em down, and screw em. But I just got 2 48" clamps today (WIN!) so my work should be a lot easier. Though, I know I need to get some router bits. I purchased some off ebay a week ago...still can't figure out where they are :(

and I agree with you on the carpeting 100%, I hate carpeting with a passion lol. I'd rather paint everything :DD

While you may not like the look of carpet, consider the amount of time and prep work needed to paint MDF. It's easy to paint it and have even the nicest boxes look like ass, because it wasn't prepped correctly.

IMO, if you are not interested in building the best product at all times, then it's not worth doing to begin with.

the prep work on the face to ready that for paint took way longer time wise then to build the whole system.
