JZeFF
Im 99% hired at a company that deals primarily with the production of color/fabric samples and pamphlets to companies like GM, Hunter Douglas, Behr, Sherwin Williams, etc. (when you go to buy a new car, the book with all the different interior fabric choices, and paint colors.. yeah, those books) I will be their IT guy: managing about 30 computers, keeping tabs on hardware that needs updated, managing permissions on their servers, fixing general problems, presenting at company meetings about various issues, updating the website, all that fun stuff. The job is labeled as entry level, but obviously its something most people couldn't just go and do. My main issue is that i just don't know what to ask for as a starting salary... Anyone got any input for me? Ninja_v1.0
honestly that means shit.. experience, certs, and size of company is whats going to decide your pay. ( not to mention area but that was already said) and with 30 servers i would look into virtualizing as quickly as possible. Tell them to take the extra savings and throw it your way Quote When your at the top everyone is coming for you, friends, family, haters and even those who don't know you.. my advice.. JZeFF
I met with the old IT guy earlier in the week, told him what i have done in the past, him and the HR guy both thought i would be qualified. I have worked there in the past in production, followed by data entry. My mother has worked there for the last 10 years as an accountant and the owner of the place has always been interested in getting to know me. I guess you could say i "have an in", haha. I made it very clear to them that some things would be a learning experience for me, but needing to learn something has never gotten in my way before. Also, the old IT guy told me he would be available any time if i had any questions. The company itself is not very large, but they do work for alot of large companies. Im going to go in asking for starting salary at 35k, with a review in 6 months to 1 year. I have put together a list of websites that give a general idea of what the salary should be, that way i have something to refer them to when they ask what i want. I'm excited, its always been something i wanted to get into and at this point it seems i got the job. Tarball
Honestly 35k seems low. Even for starting pay. I would aim a bit higher - nothing rediculous but...somthing more respectible since you will be THE IT guy. Consider people make more in a mindless factor production position (with OT).
