Jason Absher
i have a 2003 Civic Si with a Kenwood KDC-148 head unit - http://www.audiovide...148-p-6124.html. Polk Audio DXi 6 1/2 Components and matching tweeters in the front - http://www.crutchfie...00.html?tp=106. and Polk Audio 6 1/2 2-ways in the rear - http://www.crutchfie...50.html?tp=105. i have a Kenwood KAC-9105D 1800 watt mono block amp - http://www.crutchfie...D.html?tp=35834 running 2 Polk DXi 124 SVC 4-Ohm paralleled running 2-Ohm. and a AudioPipe 2 Farad Cap - http://www.audiopipe...rs/cap-200.html. The system sounds pretty great to me really...i only really have 2 issues, well one issue the other i could be imagining....lol.....the first is that i normally listen at about 24-26 volume on the deck...if you go on a 45ish minute drive then all the speakers start getting distorted till you turn in down for a bit....max volume is 35 fyi....checked all connections and everything....what i was think that maybe the amp in the head unit just cant run them very long....but wanted to see what everyone thought....the other on is that every once in a while it seems like the same note wont hit as hard as one previously in the sound....thought it maybe the cap struggling but it really shouldn't be...thanks in advance p.s. i do not think the subs distort when the other speakers do...but kinda hard to to...only sounds like full range... Mikey Bates
get rid of cap as everyone will tell you and i know the kenwood amp aint crazy power but there known to be power hungry and given its a small civic (small alt) the second bass note wont be able to suck as much power as the first because the cap is gonna wanna recharge. . . given the bass notes are back to back? or are they later in the song.....try without cap for shits and gigs and not sure about the HU thing.......and i know in my car if i listen to a song the same bass notes later in the song arent as loud but i think its just because im used to the volume so it doesnt seem as loud you know... anyways hope this helps try w/o the cap
Watch the bass
Clipping, to determine clipping you have to set your gains correct. If you live inte States here a link http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/137758-smd-audio-tools-map/. If not find one in your country who have a DD 1 or a osciloscope, maby a good caraudiostore can help you. Jason Absher
it is def. not clipping and like i said it doesnt do it until after some time of listening.
01ExSport
Must not have fixed it from the 9104's after all. Mine did the same thing, except it would get quieter for about 15-20 seconds then go back to the same volume. Overheating mehbeh? Possibly just a little happy on the gain, but it might just be a fault of the Kenwoods.
deathcards
caps are hard on alts hint the reason the second post said to get rid of it for shits and gigs big 3 could help more than a cap Quote skar sk2500.1 0 gauge power and ground kunukonceptz alpine HUvxi65 components on BA gt-275new build log -> http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/150642-project-d-kon-deathcards-build-log/#entry2148821 2 x-15 sundowns singer alt, odyssey bat, and maxwell ultra caps
cosmo10292
could be the amp but i have a feeling its that cap! take it out and see how the stereo sounds after. A cap sucks up energy and basically spits it back out at random. That could be a reason why a note would sound good once then not as good the next time. What you could also do is set your gains on the amp before it sounds distorted at full power on the head unit. that might help also.
Guest
how do you know you're not clipping? thats complete and utter bull shit unless you personally tuned your gains with an oscilloscope or a dd-1.
Jessica
My 9105d, which i set with the dd-1 -5db, and my pac lc-1 at half. Will do the same thing, but... it is in a place where it cant really get good airflow, and wil only do that if i play loud bass and have the lc-1 past half for more than 15 minutes. I am pretty damn sure i am clipping, but i only turn that knob up until the volume stops getting louder then back it back down a bit. That is also with voltage drop down to 12.8 sometimes. So i would say, heat+clipping+voltage = amp dropping power. I don't think it's the amps fault. Quote Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. Jason Absher
i was more interested in the other speakers cutting out....put yes my HU and amp have been gain matched....but if the word is that the cap isnt doing me any good then i guess i should get rid of it....
