Gettin' in a little work on a Friday evening.

Back to the dash fabrication.

Used some CA glue to adhere the side tabs onto the main iPad template.

678-templateglue_zps05e52389.jpg

With the side tabs adhered, I removed the whole assembly and added some more glue to the back side for more strength.

679-backtemplateglue_zps0cc93376.jpg

Another test fit showed that everything was in place, so time for some body filler to add some more strength and to start flowing the pieces together.

And.....for the bad news. Sure enough.

The Cambridge Audio iD100 Digital Converter module doesn't appear to be compatible with the iPad Mini (Retina). :(

Even though I have an email from their customer service saying that it would work....

Its hard these days to put together projects like this when your information is so wrong.

Apparently there is a major digital output change between the iPad Mini and the Retina version. Thanks for that Apple... :aggressive:

Well, for the time being, I can always Bluetooth the iPad Mini to the Fosgate 360.3 but I would really like to get the optical link established.

So I might have to try a few different things or just wait for other products to come to market.

Got in some work yesterday before the 30 degrees temps and snow hit today.... <_<

Test fit after the first application of body filler (Rage Gold).

681-templatefillertest_zpsa90a6d40.jpg

I was intriguied by Mark's (CAF) review of Sonus Matter so I decided to pick some up since I'll be doing some careful body filler smoothing on the dash fabrication.

682-SonusMatter_zpsa89a7f80.jpg

It definitely is strangely light and "airy".

683-Matterstir_zps6efa2187.jpg

It has a great consistantcy and isn't too thick or thin. Worked great for a vertical application like my dash.

Here's the first application of matter to form out the basic structure of the piece.

684-Firstmatterlayer_zpsa915d221.jpg

I heard that Matter doesn't have a "green" stage but regardless, when it starts to set up, you can almost work it like putty or clay and help smooth the surface for better sanding.

It does sand very well but you do have to let it cure for a bit beforehand because I did get some air pockets and some surface tearing which caused some more pitting and an uneven surface.

It's pricey but it is really nice filler. :good:

Here we are after much sanding, a few light applications and some filler primer. A few pits and some imperfections, but it's coming together pretty well. :D

We want more.

LOL

So do I....

Currently 28deg and snowing... :(

I suppose my shivering hands would actually help with the body filler sanding .....

Take your time WICKS! nobody rushed Picasso. ..or did they. ..lol.

Do you know if there's a way to have radio without streaming?

HA, I agree! :drinks:

Hmm, good question. This car had a custom antenna setup and doesn't have the usual "banana jack" cable.

So I've basiclly been without radio for quite a while and don't mind it at all really.

I've never been big on radio anyway due to the extreme repetiveness, but I could see why some people would want it.

I looked around and only saw streaming apps.

I would assume there must be some bluetooth FM tuners out there but I didn't see any at first look.

Fuck me in the face J

wow....

I LOVE it......

Is that matter as cool as "the other" products?

LOL... Your comments never dissapoint Kyle :D

:drinks:

Yep, this Matter is cool stuff. Everything coming out of Sonus appears to be legit. Those guys are definitely leading the pack.

With a bunch of vinyl work coming up in my trunk, I'm thinking some of their special router bits would be sweet...pricey, but sweet.
