I love that year R1...not a fan of the newer bikes looks really, I like the cbr's look but I bleed red so that might have something to do with it...lol I have a CB1000RA

I hear ya! I was shooting for a CBR when I stumbled onto my R1 back in 2005.

The R1 had the rare color combo, one owner, low miles (5,000) and was in fantastic condition so I just couldn't say no to it...... wub.gif.pagespeed.ce.e1gwF8SrNu.gif

Here's a 1997 CR250 that I used to have:

First 2 stroke I ever rode (after growing up on 4 strokes).

I basically crashed the thing every time I rode it. :o

Jesus Wicks, i missed this cuz i was doing the same work. But, mine looked A LOT funner than the shit you have going on.

Sorry bro... bummer. Your making killer head way though. And kudos for the "stick to it" attitue man. Cheers my friend.

Yep, lots of craziness going on.

I see you've been busy, real busy. That wall is coming along nicely.

Yeah I'm in so deep with this build, there's no turning back now.

Just gotta take the good with the bad, it'll be worth it in the end.

I was gonna say before..I have always loved honda, but I had a 08 yz250 setup for desert, that was the BEST bike I have ever owned. (offroad bike) long story short had a bad get off at over 80+ mph (gps verified) and took about a year off and sold it. Regret it to this day.

Vehicles

2005 GMC Canyon

CB1000r - Currently where any future funds are going. (exhasut, bazzaz, ohlins shock, screen, etc.)

crf250r - Used to be race bike..now I just trail ride..practice at the track on it.

CH80 - Daily beater (when nice weather)best 150$ ever spent. 100+mpg

Sold to:

Skullz - pstone11 - Leo1103 - Volvo 63' - pavelpardo - imnew59585

Shower farts still piss me off.

I think theyre pretty neat. When the water runs down your crack as you let one out... its like shitting in a crockpot.

Updates... :woot:

First off, some bad news... :(

I did a LOT of shifting my sub-box back and forth in my trunk as I was trying to prep the box to fix the cracked joint.

Well...one of my SMD Coax cables got in the way and was MANGLED...

436-SMDcablesbad_zps9686d51b.jpg

It might still work but since I've got most of my trunk torn apart I might as well replace it.

Plus the fact that I recently found out that my amps do not have single ended inputs so twisted pair wire might actually be a better solution then coax.

If you've been following this build then you know that I've changed RCA's now probably 4 times.

This should be the final attempt...hopefully.

Since the amps are not singled ended (outside RCA conductor is not directly tied to ground) then twisted pair is what I needed.

I found some really nice Canare L-2T2S shielded and twisted pair wire for a great price on Markertek.com.

Should provide the best of both worlds, twisted pair for a differential input and shielded which I'll try and incorporate as well.

I also grabbed some Neutrik Rean NYS373-2 RCA connectors which are the same ones used by D'Amore in the SMD cables.

Second, I'm still a noob at fiberglassing.

It took me a couple attempts to get it right.

On the first attempt I forgot to properly wet the MDF before applying the fiberglass cloth.

That resulted in the fiberglass soaking up a bunch of resin (Sunflash) too fast and setting before it could bond to the MDF below it.

Sunflash is great, but its tough to use on parts that are not removable from the car.

On the second attempt, I cut some grooves into the MDF to give the final fiberglass some rigidity rather than a flat surface which could potentially bend.

So I pulled out my new reciprocating saw and did this:

439-boxgrooves1_zpsb3177016.jpg

439-boxgrooves2_zpsda65f05f.jpg

To avoid the issues I had with Sunflash setting too soon, I picked up some normal resin from US Composites:

438-resin_zpsd1baa52f.jpg

I don't have a pic of it, but the next attempt didn't work as I tried to resin a whole strip of fiberglass cloth along those ridges I cut and it didn't work...at all.

Trying to get the cloth to adhere to one groove would cause it to pull and come out of another set of grooves.

So on a brain-fart, I realized that I needed to use small pieces of fiberglass and spread them over the surface rather than one large piece.

More resin applied first:

440-resinwetting_zpsa729005f.jpg

BOOM, nice small chunks:

First successful layer applied

:woot: Now we're cookin'..!

2nd Layer

Excess fiberglass trimmed

444-fiberglasstrimmed_zps7cf9260e.jpg

444-fiberglasstrimmedclose_zps2267fe6e.j

Added a layer of Rage Body Filler to smooth out the fiberglass (and maybe a little more strength)

445-bodyfiller_zpsaf6e9360.jpg

445-fillersanded_zps773d384f.jpg

While the Rage was curing, I went to the back of the box and added some fiberglass pieces and a good amount of resin to the other side of the baffle.

446-fiberglassboxinside1_zpsce2042d9.jpg

446-fiberglassboxinside2_zps72440ae9.jpg

WHEW......glad that hurdle is mostly over.

Now if that joint breaks again after: re-gluing, more screws, two layers of fiberglass and a thick layer of body filler then I give up on this box.... :trippy:

Quick update:

So I've been lacking in the midbass area going from my 5 1/4" HSK130's to my big XL12's.

I do have a set of Hertz HSK165's sitting around that I haven't played with yet which would help, but a lil more would be good.

I've been thinkin' that some 8's would fill that gap nicely.

Well, I just happened to fall into this deal from a local member "Bassstratus".

Check this out:

CIMG6603_zpsdceebda0.jpg

CIMG6604_zps4b0dc5b5.jpg

Hertz ES200 8" subs and an HE2 amp.

While they're aren't DC M3 8's or SA-8's they are still quite beefy:

CIMG6605_zps28a1e531.jpg

They're a little big to be able to stuff in my kicks, especially with a clutch pedal on the drivers side so how about this?

CIMG6606_zps661dbd23.jpg

Check out the color combination between the 8's and my door panels:

CIMG6607_zps19bb4afb.jpg

It's like they were made for this car. The black, silver and orange match perfectly...! It's got me a lil excited... ;)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, how to stuff a set of HSK130's, HSK165's AND these 8's in the door panel...?

Are you actually wanting a set of dc 8s to match ur dc subs?

I'd love a pair of DC 8's but they're way too monster.....I have no room to put them. These Hertz 8's alone will be a challenge.

We'll see what I can do! :good:
