Crandis16
Hey everyone, I'm at the painting stage and I'm holding off because I know the absorbant power or MDF to paint lol. I'm looking for help on how to prepare my box to be painted. I have given primer some thought but I want advice from the pro's of SMD out there have have already painted many boxes. Also I want the port to be a different color than the exterior of the box, what is the best way to go about doing that??? I'm going to say thanks in advance, you guys and gals are awesome Here is the box Quote My Red zx2 Build Log My Black zx2 Build Log My Red zx2 UBL

Crandis16
Your thougt "primer" is it. Thanks, multiple coats? or would one coat be enough to get the job done? Quote My Red zx2 Build Log My Black zx2 Build Log My Red zx2 UBL
CleanSierra
Sand down your edges first and get them flush Your cuts could use a little love. Scuff the box with maroon 3M scotchbrites. Apply a layer or two of primer and let it dry. You may scuff that once its dry lightly and let er rip for paint. Painting doesn't need sanded between stages. CleanSierra
Also a router bit to the inside of the port to sort of round it over and sanding the inside of the baffle where the sub mounts to a round over would give better airflow. bobobass
Mdf sucks to paint. The best way to get a good finish is to coat the box with fiberglass resin and then sand it smooth. Then just paint it like you would anything else Quote 2000 Subaru outback 2.5l Head Unit: Pioneer deh 4300ub front stage: tbd subwoofer: Stock Fi Q 18" amp: Audio que 1200d
HatersGonnaHate
Seal all the edges of the box with elmer's wood filler or bondo, soaks up less paint that way. Bigsix
All of the above is sound advice. But you'd have been better off painting your port before assembling the box. Not a big deal tho, just wouldve been easier to get it done nicely. TheBetterMethod
Whoa...you're gonna need more than paint bro. First boxes are always a big learning experience. Seriously though, sand it all smooth to make the edges flush, it's worth the effort. Then prime it A LOT and smooth that with some 100grit before paint.
