AB18VFL
are there any real accurate box building calculators? i have used torres, winisd, bassbox, re, etcetc. all of these calculators are roughly 7hz off in tuning. for instance, if i use torres and build a box "tuned to 37hz", tuning will actually end up being 29-30hz. anyone? Maxim
How do you figure? IDK where you're getting the "7hz off in tuning" number from. Tuning frequency of a subwoofer enclosure and resonant/peak frequency of your vehicle are two different things. Quote wtf is lolcats? I'd def get a fat hooker if i had to resort to that kinda thing. I feel like they'd be grateful and work harder. Also its more bang for my buck, more real estate for my dollar if you catch my drift. its like the Costco of streetwalkers. I was hoping for 150 . bassrace
Just curious how did you figure you were tuned to 29-30 when torres said 37? AB18VFL
im talking about the tuning frequency of the box itself. i fully understand a vehicals tuning, but thats not my issue (this time lol). the frequency in which the sub appears to not be moving is the tuning freqency of the enclosure, correct? thats the way i was taught for years. RooTxBeeR
Lol um, you must be building the port wrong, when you build the port, you need to go off the physical port length, not what you put in as the length. I made that mistake on my first box. It is very easy to overlook, trust me, torres box calc is not 7hz off, someone who had said something by now... AB18VFL
i've been building boxes for a while, i know i'm not building the port wrong. I do not build port bends unless absolutely necessary. the port is 2" wide. 26 sq in of port. 19.25in long. 28hz was the point of no movement for my sub. the box sounded amazing, but it wasnt what I was aiming for lol. Sheena
User error What size sub? Need more port. All boxes have a f3 point (-3db) that is "safe" to play down to. On ear, when it sounds like your sub is just moving air and not making sound, that's your f3 I believe. Boxes are pretty simple anyways.. If your shits bottoming out or is just moving air.. Tune lower, or add port. I hope to god you aren't giving that 10 2.2 cu ft of air space Quote 09 Civic EX KDC-X395 (2) SKAR Audio VVX-12 Skar Audio SK-1500.1 4 cu ft @32 (new box and more port soon) Firing Forward not sealed off Stock 80 Amp Alt Big 3 In 1/0 Knu 2 Runs To The Back 1 Pos 1 Neg In 1/0 Knu DD-1'd 13.8v drop

Sheena
Try 2 cu ft and 13-16 sq in of port per cube. Tune to whatever you feel like. 32-33 is most common Quote 09 Civic EX KDC-X395 (2) SKAR Audio VVX-12 Skar Audio SK-1500.1 4 cu ft @32 (new box and more port soon) Firing Forward not sealed off Stock 80 Amp Alt Big 3 In 1/0 Knu 2 Runs To The Back 1 Pos 1 Neg In 1/0 Knu DD-1'd 13.8v drop

The Re is off so forget about it, winisd and bassbox can't calculate slot ports with common walls so are not to be used with those, You should review the enclosure build and your test methods to start.
