Sub Purchasing Impedance Issue.

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm buying 2 SA-12s brand new.

I'm running them off of a brz2100.

I like the D2s, but I'm sure that they could take more than 1400 watts in total, so I also like the sound of D4s.

It's just that I want the option to get a 3rd one.

Because I could wire 3 D2s down to 1.3.

What are my wiring options with 3 D4s?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

New Setup;

H/U; Pioneer DEH-80prs.

Wiring; 2 runs of 2/0 OFC & Big 3.

Subs; 2 D1 DC Level 4s.

Monoblock; DC 3.5k.

4 Channel; JBL GTO1004.

Highs; Vifa NE25VTS-04.

Mids; Aura NS6-255-8A.

Alt; 160a.

Batts; Optima, KHC1800.

go D2. 1400 is plenty. you will notice a greater change when you add the 3rd woofer and wire to 1.3 than if you try to run 2100 to the 2 right now. you could also run at .5 ohm in the meantime if you have a wallet for something to go wrong. id stay at 2 ohm if it were me

Yeah, I wouldn't risk it on my electrical.

Alright, I guess I'll go with D2s. Thank you for the quick response.

Was a figure of speech.

I meant I liked the sound of having the ability to wire 2 subs down to 1 ohm.

Maybe he's had an amp that was 2 ohm stable, but wired his D2 to 1 ohm, and his D4 to 2, and didn't like the distortion the amp was making at 1 ohm?

Although, it might not be noticeable to ear, but different impedance speakers do have slightly different T/S parameters. So, slightly different response.

Example:

Fi Q15

DUAL 1 | DUAL 2 Fs: 32.4 Hz | 32.1 Hz Re: 0.7 Ohms/coil | 1.4 Ohms/coil Qms: 8.52 | 8.61 Qes: .43 | .44 Qts: .41 | .42 Mms: 293g | 299g Cms: 0.82mm/N | 0.82mm/N Sd: 810cm^2 | 810cm^2 Vas: 75.6 l | 75.6 l Spl: 89.6dB 1W/1m | 89.4dB 1W/1m Bl: 13.9 N/A | 19.65 N/A Xmax: 28mm Rms: 1500W Sealed box: 2-2.6 cuft Ported box: 2.8-4 cuft @ 28-33Hz Sub OD: 15.625” Cut ID: 14.125” Mounting depth: 8.500” Displacement: 0.19cuft

But again, it's really not enough of a difference to warrant a purchase do to different T/S parameters, it's mostly amp-dependant.

*New vehicle and system coming soon.*
