Loud Trunk Setup Owners Step Inside...need Help

Recommended Posts

I have a 97 maxima my loudest score was 145.6 in my kick...(AC180?) and that was on a stock electrical system and half the power..(and before my speakers were modded)

So now this and next month my setup will be complete and hopefully getting it metered again..

My question is the damn rear deck! I have 2 large cutouts for 6.5 speakers i blew them from pressure of the air so i removed them and i want to build a new box with a port that sticks out and is flush with the rear deck...OR

i can cut out more of the rear deck and slide the port through the rear deck then into the box...(it sounds awsome but what the hell can i use to cut through the deck? a dremel wont work, unless there is some kind of different bit..and i dont have a saw all)

Another thing i was think was simply sliding round flared ports though deck then into the box..BUT i know i would need more than just 2 6" flared ports right?

any other ideas of porting though the rear deck?

ALSO i kinda tried sealing my trunk off with just 1 peice of wood and it wasnt loud at all just moved alot of air?

PS loudest so far is having the port in the rear facing the passenger quarter panel

That's what I was going to suggest. Try doing that with the woofer firing up, also try port to driver's side in that configuration, slide the box all the way back to the rear of the car. I wouldn't even bother venting your ports through the rear deck because it never works for SPL and it's alot more trouble than it's worth.

i disagree....porting thru the rear deck can increase spl...its all just very vehicle dpendant though.

what kinda subs/amp are u running?

2 6" flared ports for a coulpe of 12s should be adequate port area.

do you compete? b/c if you do then you might wanna read up on the rules b/c i know for MECA if you modify the rear deck whatsoever then you are automatically in the modified class....i sealed around my enclosure with expanding foam and it works fine. have u tried firing everything forward, if you seats fold down that is?

i likes me some audio stuff...

was going to say the same, ported thru rear deck

I just did a lexus last night with only 1-6" port firing thru the rear deck, not even sealed off, but aligned with the factory 8" sub hole

Once its sealed off, it will sound better.

But in comparison to the dual 12" ported box, all firing back, this was a HUGE improvement, played lower notes, louder, with better detail in the lower region, but it lacked the higher bass notes wich was kinda frusterating, well to the owner, not me.

So yeah I would suggest bandpass thru the rear deck sealed off, or fold the seats down, woofers firing thru the seat, sealed off, with ports thru rear deck

If doing bandpass, use as large of a port as possible

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

hmmm my woofers fire up and port to the rear side right now..

I think deck porting will be my best bet...

sounds good i might have to try a banpass

anyone else recommend them?

The opening I used as the "chimney" was already there-I didn't have to cut any metal in that case-just cut the rear deck material which was plastic...however a dremel with a cuttoff wheel, an angle grinder, a saws-all, or even a jigsaw with a high tooth count metal cutting blade would work fine just get some eye and ear protection while ur doin cuz it'll get real loud right by ur head in that tight of a space and the metal shards in the eyes=no fun.

Worst case scenario-drill some pilot holes and bust out the keyhole/hacksaw.

I'd say look at a rotozip that comes with the anglegrinder/cuttoff tool attachment included.

I used a rotozip with the 1/8" spiral upcut bit-ok for plastic but not gonna do it for sheet metal.
