Nathan @ XSpower
If you are only seeing 1cm, then more than likely that is just normal. A brand new battery will have a small curve to it right out of the box. This isn't due to swelling it is because of the reinforced casing of the battery. Swelling occurs because of a few things. One is overcharging. If the battery is charged at a higher voltage than what is recommended it can cause the battery to swell. Second is too much heat on the battery. This really only happens in under the hood applications where the engine is producing a lot of heat. This can be helped by adding a heat deflector around the battery. These can be purchased at any auto parts store for under $20. Third thing is the battery has sit for a long period of time and has not been properly maintained. For example you have a battery that sits for 6 months and you never charge it up. It drops below 12.6V and sulfation starts to build on the plates in the battery. Then when you go to use it the sulfation causes the internal pressure to build in the battery and it then starts to swell.
