DC Level XL 15" Running on Kicker ZX2500.1 Box Help

My pair of cvx 15 hit low and also hit the higher bass. Im tuned at 34hz and have 3.5 net on each with 15 inches of port but that can be dropped to 12-14 since kickers dont need much port per.

Very happy with the sound and range from 28hz to 70 plus hard.

Did you read his problem at all? He doesn't have 3.5 cubes per sub after displacements. He needs to ditch the 15s and get a couple of mean 12s that will work in the space he has.

Its because I am broke practically trying to pay bills, and I have 2 cvx 15's sitting in my closet ha ha, I have enough room for 6.5 cubes after port displacement but like I said I don't even know if I can fit the amp in there, I would love to get 2 DC level 4 12's, those are the exact subs I want, and they want only 3 cubes ported before port displacement, which is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but I will have to wait easily 6 months+ before I can even think about being able to afford them, since they are around $600 ish together so I am stuck in a shitty situation, I have been doing a lot of reading on how the cvx's sound in a sealed box, it seems they will sound really nice, but less output, cause the cvx's love huge ported boxes, if I did a sealed box it would be like this, much smaller, but damn im stuck, have been thinking all day on what to do

Thinking about it though, I could build the box for 2 12 subs speced for the dc level 4's, get the amp rack done, and try to save over the next couple months slowly, and try to sell these cvx's, that would be the best plan :/ what would you suggest for port area for the dc level 4 12"s for 2 of them, and would you do 3 cubes like they suggest (1.5 per sub) ?

Was letting you know my experience with them in ported but i did originally a while back made a sealed box for them

The box was 2.5 cubes net seperate chamber each. I only ran them at 900 rms total since i didnt have the right amp yet.

Compared to how they sound ported the sq switching back and forth was only SLIGHTLY better in sealed but the output was definitely better when ported.

They still got loud and clean though but they definitely wanted 2000-2500rms pushing them when sealed and if you could do that itll get loud.

If you go two twelves ported with that space you have it will be capable of hitting slightly better than sealed on same power.

Do not go less than 2.5 net each sealed or pass it stay at 2.5

my ZX2500.1 was tested at 2845, so it defiantly has the power to push them, the thing is if I am going to do a sealed box at 2.5 each, thats 5 cubes, almost as big as going ported, kicker says that 1.8 is the min per sub and that will allow 900rms to it, well I have a week to think it over :/ sucks ass

I was thinking, cause if I wait to do the 12's I wont have subs for awhile, but I could go this route, build a box for 1 15", run 1 cvx for now, and then when I get the money buy 1 dc level XL or level 5, the amp pushing it is a Kicker zx 2500.1, rated at 2845, would I be better off getting a dc level xl which does 2200 rms, or level 5 which does 3500rms, I wouldnt be able to push the level 5, but the amp would be to much for the level xl, that is just a thought, let me know what you think, im trying to decided what to do, big dilemma :/ its no doubt 2 dc level 4 12"s would be the best bet, but idk, then I have to wait for a long time, and 1 15 would be half the price

Yeah ive done my girls setup with 1 15 kicker cvx on 1000rms in a 3.5 net 36hz tuned box and it smashes from 28-70 hard. She listens to techno spanish and rap.

I think I may try that box I designed thats ported, it should be pretty damn awesome I would think

Had an Idea, I could build the box I designed, but I would change the port, so it would be 7.57 cubes for the box with .15 for bracing, the port would be 15H x 6.5w x 27L (internal size of port), giving me 100.75 sq inches of port space, 13.31 per ft, and the port would be 100% external, going through the back seats in the middle, up almost to the front, then I would mount the amp to the back of the hatch, so when you open the hatch the amp will be suspended in the air what do you guys think?

Box 7.57 cubes box (incudes .15 for bracing)

port 100.75 sq inches (13.31 per ft)

tune freq 31.88 with sub inverted

tune freq 32.8 with sub in normal

let me know what you think, also since the port would be mounted to a slanted side of the box, would I simply calculate the port area by sq ft of the port I designed, and calculate that into a port thats straight with the connecting edge being angled to be the same sq ft, so it would change length a little bit?

Or I could do all of that, but mount the subs in the box facing the back in the angled part, and I would build an extension of the box that goes up on top of the box, so something thats like 6h x 31w x 10d, and this would add another 1.5 sq ft to the box, getting me to like 8.8 cubic ft, and the amp rack could be built on top of that

how would it sound with the subs firing back at the hatch, they would have 3-4 inches of clearence between the box and hatch, its all rounded back there so I would think the bass would carry up front really well

ok designed a new box with great specs, let me know what you think, I have to measure to make sure the port depth will fit in the hatch, if its too deep I will make the port like 4-3.5 inches deep and widen the port to 24 inches or so

Box is designed for 2 DC Level 4 15" subs that I will buy in the spring, will put 2 kicker cvx 15" subs in there for now taking 2000 rms total, they should enjoy it

There will only be 3-3.5 inches between the sub and part of the port, hope that doesnt effect the sub too much, I will have dowels in the middle from the port to the box for support, I am building the box soon, so I want to finalize my design, any input is very appreciated!!!!

Since the port will be up by the ceiling and facing the front I will be lighting the inside of the port with red lights, this box is very different then anything I have seen before

I was recommeded by cj18 to do 30 hz tuning, 14 sq inches per cubic ft, and 3.5 cubic ft per sub, for 7 cubic ft total, here is what I made

Dude, here is my situation, if I do 12's I might as well not come to the forum for the next 4-6 months, cause I wont have the money to buy these ridiculously expensive dc subs, which are worth it, but still fucking expensive. I wish you would explain why this box isn't so great, its to spec of everything that the subs want, 7 cubes total, 100 sq inches of port, around 14 sq inches per cube, 30 hz tuning, the port is fluid in its bends. The subs dont care if the port is internal or external in design, thats why im hell bent on these 15's, cause 15's hit lower, move more air, and its what I have for subs right now, and they are 2 pretty awesome subs (my cvx's). Don't take this as not being appreciative of your help, cause not many have even put there 2 cents in to help with this, they look at this thread and move on, so I appreciate your help a lot, I just am in a fuckin shitty situation :/ I dont wanna go 4-6 months without bass, I finally got the money to build a nice box, and the one I designed is to spec and should fit in the vehicle, plus I think it would look pretty insane and cool (cause its different), but idk, fuck me.... I'm about ready to just say fuck it and forget about the whole damn thing till next year
