More power more cubic feet?

Recommended Posts

BTW, if adding more power, you do not have to change your box volume at all. If it sounded good before, just keep it the way it is.

For severe over powering though, you usually want to adjust volume and tuning to make it safer to play under higher excursion.

I want to catch 51 hz peak at 45 hz so I can play thoes stand up bass songs one day

Can someone explain why I would need a smaller volume with more power

If your vehicle peaks at 51hz, you will most likely retain that peak if you tune your enclosure to 45hz.

However if you want to play the lower frequencies I recommend a tuning of around 32hz.

That low of a tuning will hurt your peak SPL and possibly lower your peak frequency.

The reason you would need a smaller volume with more power is because the speakers want to move more eventually to the point where the cone will rip itself out of the motor.

You need a smaller volume to "choke" the speaker a little so it doesn't tear itself apart.

Think of when you rev your engine. If it isn't in any gear and you rev it it will reach dangerous rpms rather quickly without a load on it.

However, if you place it in a gear with a load on it, such as moving your car, the engine doesn't rev out of control.

as Ed mentioned you should just keep the box the same if it already sounded good...and just increase the power...

now unless your going to be throwing a Shit Ton (that's slightly more than a Ton and less than an Ass Load) of power then you should be fine with the same enclosure

if your going for the Shit Ton or Ass Load category then you should decrease the volume of your enclosure
