Wiring Voltage Meter

Im looking at a voltage meter, but it doesnt have a remote turn-on sensor wire. More specifically, Im looking into this http://www.sureelectronics.net/goods.php?id=1055

The volt meter only has a positive and negative input, and I want the meter to switch on and off with my HU. Ive been looking up relay wiring and think I found a solution. I just want either a confirmation or for someone to correct it. If you dont know, then dont post :)

30 = To 12v input of amp

85 = To negative battery post

86 = To remote turn on

87 = To voltage meter

87a = Not used

From my understanding, when pin 86 gets power, pin 30 and 87 get connected.

Try measuring your voltage simultaneously. I'll bet the switched ignition {coming from your ignition switch} is within 0.02 volts of what it is at the amplifier.

I have 2 volt meters.. one that plugs into my cig lighter, and the one that goes straight into my amps inputs.

At idle and while driving around, theyre pretty close. Only .1V off or the same reading.. but when I turn my system up, they're totally different readings.

I dont want to take that risk.

Edit: yes, he does have that VM and runs a switch.

Good idea and yes that will work, you could even tie 86 to ign source so you dont have another accessory on your remote wire.

Shouldn't you be able to just put the positive wire onto the remote lead?

Good idea and yes that will work, you could even tie 86 to ign source so you dont have another accessory on your remote wire.

Shouldn't you be able to just put the positive wire onto the remote lead?

I want to measure the voltage that the amp sees. Also, if I see the voltage the amp sees.. I can detect issues before they become expensive.

I have the stinger volt meter with remote wire. Is it better to wire it to the amp or battery? I tried wiring it to my amp but it didn't work so I figured either I was wiring it wrong, the meter was broken when I received it or I didn't have the wire pushed in far enough and not getting a signal. I was just going to extend the wires and run it to my battery and the remote off my HU but it would be ten times easier to just go straight from the amp.

I prefer to have the wire plugged to the amp and here's why:

I can detect any problems before its too late.

Examples..

-If the fuses from my front to back battery are blown, Ill detect the problem before I potenetially kill a bettery, two amps, and sound processor.

-If the fuse is blown going to the amp, Ill save the amp.

-I want to know what voltage the amp is seeing.

The stinger meter is super easy to wire the wire are even colored for what they should be connected to

Red - 12v amp power

Black - amp ground

Blue - amp remote

Do that works like a champ.
