I pop the trunk, the amp is burning hot to the touch and I smell burning wire. Anyone have a guess as to why? All the wires were connected properly. No arcing. Soo that's a no-go. But what do you think would cause that to happen? Did you have it grounded correctly? Yeah, it's grounded to a sanded down section of frame. What is your voltage full tilt and when it fried? 3. What is the ohm load the amp is seeing 4. Have you done the big 3? 5. How is the amp mounted 6. Were you clipping, are you sure, are you really sure? 7. How did you set your gains? 8. Bass boost? 9. Eq settings? 10. Were you clipping? 11. What was your voltage? edit. i forgot one 12. b-dubs89 Posted July 19, 2012 Report Share Posted July 19, 2012 i really can't answer you why an amp might fail because i don't know enough about how an amp works to break it down , shorted mosfets is a common failure of amps , so is the power supply . assuming your install was good and all settings were good you may have just gotten a dud . but i would really suggest that you double check every thing before too long when you get your replacement amp . i would also recommend a voltage meter , when your voltage dips playing full tilt your amp has to work alot harder and low voltage can make an amp very unhappy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've seen the most intelligent active members lose a amplifier here.. Made me sick for them.. Sometimes, it does truly "just happen" . Also, I've seen/read a dumb ass asking how to wire lower than .5 ohm,... After reading his profile of "stock electrical" and still jamming... I can say you lost it because, BUT, it has been fine up untill now why????.. Man... Sometimes IT REALLY does just happen ... Sorry for the bullshit post, & no help.... More details of your setup, as previously mentioned, will be needed to help you figure out your problem. The comment you made about "this time for good" has me concerned as well.
