6 Obsidian 18's in a tahoe

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking long and hard and I think I'm going to sell my AQ's and put 6 obsidian 18's in my tahoe subs up/port back. I will run them off my crescendo 3500 at .66 ohms. You guys think I can get loud even though it's only 4k watts? I know that's not much but I would almost have to hit a 152 or higher with 6 18's. What do you guys think?

*Edit*

If my port ends up being close to the rear hatch, will I need to tune the box higher? I was thinking that if the hatch acts like another port, it would lower the tuning. Is this correct?

and if subs up/port back won't fit, I'll have to do a 4th order. Either way, just looking to move a lot of air. The AQ's just aren't cutting it.

Why Obsidian? Why 18"s?

Reason why I ask, is by the two posts it seems like you aren't concrete on working with that equipment. Where do you plan on having the 4th? Behind the C-Pillar, or forward to the B?

If you're going to do a 4th in either situation you may as well measure your volume and go with as many woofers you can get in that given area. Why build a smaller 4th just to get bored of it and tear it down in two months two do one with double the amount of drivers? In a Tahoe I'm sure you could do (8) 15"s behind the C-Pillar, but then again thats just a guess.

Will the 4K is giving them a little over RMS still... So you shouldnt have any problems driving them. My only question would be how tall your box is going to be for all 6 18's to fit in there and be ported.

Well the reason I chose obsidian's is because I know they can move a LOT of air with a low amount of power. And the reason I chose 6 is because 6 600rms woofers would go perfect with my amp. I suppose I could do 6 15" behind the c pillar but I had planned on doing 6 18's behind the b pillar. I don't know much about 4th orders. That's why I wanted to try and do subs up/port back. It's just that I haven't seen many obsidian setups since they're a new company so I thought it would be cool to try a multi woofer setup with them.

Well that's what I'm worried about. I haven't had the chance to measure up and design a box but I was planning on doing that tonight. If I can squeeze them in behind the b pillar with subs up, thats what I'd like to do. Should create a lot of pressure that way. But it will be tough to fit around 30 cu ft in the back.

Yes, even though my electrical can't handle the full power of my SAE1200, they still get pretty loud. I'd imagine 6 18's would be freakin retarded.

They sound awesome too. Get low on rap, and I've never heard a clearer kick drum. And I listen to some pretty fast metal. each double bass kick is loud and clear. I don't have sound deadener, but I for sure need some. My hatch window and sunroof sound like they're gonna break.
