Will these fuse plans work? Need second opinions please.

Recommended Posts

I dont know what vehicle this is going in but generally you only need 1 fuse alt to bat. (some people dont use a fuse on this wire) its such a short run that odds of something going wrong in the middle are slim as long as common sense precautions are used when installing.

The run from front to back only needs one fuse unless you plan to put a second power source in the rear (battery).

300a front to rear

300a alt to bat (if you want to use a fuse here).

CURRENT SYSTEM:

  • Alternator:
    1. Stock alt on mids/highs
    2. Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v
  • Batteries: (2) XS D1400s
  • Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks
  • Headunit: 80-PRS
  • Sub Amp: DC 5.0k
  • Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones
  • Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal.
  • Mids & Highs Amp: CT125.4
  • Active Components:
    • Mids RE XXX 6.5c
    • Highs - 3 RE XXX tweeters per side(A pillar)
  • Noise Control: Damplifier Pro all over the cab.

Unless your planing on adding a second battery, I wouldn't bother with a second fuse in the back. But I would still fuse the alt to battery if you can. The diagram looks good otherwise.

Edit- Just looked at the diagram again, and forgot to mention that the fuse ratings should be based on the wires rating. So if you put a 4awg wire going from the dist block then anything over 120a fuse is not going to protect the wire. That is assuming the wire is OFC.

Smart idea. Now that I'm getting a HO alt I wanna do this to protect my alt as well as battery. So I would have to find the clamped current of my alt, then get fusing that is a little greater than that I the alt?

I'd fuse to just a little under what the wire is rated for. Remember your fusing to keep the wire from catching fire if it gets overloaded from a short, not to protect any equipment. So

This is in a 97 e150 van. Later there will be another batt in the rear to help with the power converter. The run from alt to batt will be close to 4.5' thank you for the info.

I know it's not for the alt and stuff but can't hurt hopefully. Absolutely don't want any fires!

Not sure what the 3/0 ofc is rated at the wire/fuse chart don't say. So if ran a 200a fuse at the batt and one before it goes back in the van I will be fine? From the fuse block to the amps will be 4' of 1/0 off brand wire. Are the 4ch fuses in the block being 60a good or should it be 30a same for the mono being 80a.? Thanks for the help I want to make sure everything is done the correct way the first time.

Why not use 1/0 OFC? I can't imagine that it's very much more expensive. That's what I have for my big 3, even when I had my little kicker in there. I'm glad I did it now because I'm upgrading power :)

Mainly cause I have 120' of it laying around :D . Oh to let ya know I'll be putting in a 6000watt or bigger power converter. To power a marshal guitar amp, flat screen tv DVD player and a charger for mom's wheel chair when I take her to the docs.

wanna send some to me too then? :P

sounds to me like you're building a rolling booming living room to me :P does mom approve of the system

I could spare some wire if you really need some. Just let me know and I'll let you know what brand it is tomorrow. So you can decide if it's good enough for you. Mom don't like space music as she calls it :D . Daughter says the escort is too loud <_< . Wife says :morepower1: then stops me when I give it. Son says it's worthless and unneeded but he loves when I play AC/DC. It's been nicknamed the jukebox by the youth at school and church. It might be interesting for sure. The second most important part to this build coming is the Marshal amp going in cleanly and functional.

Space music hahahahaha sound like she'll love it then :P you need more approval lol. Just sneak a H/O alt and an extra amp when she's not looking, she won't even know ;) a lot of people don't understand why I do it either. Just just look in the trunk and tell me there isn't much room like I don't know already. I'm looking forward to it though. Any brand decision on subs yet?

Edit: every girl I give demos to has to ask if it's going to be loud before I do it, almost as if they expect me to show them how quiet my system goes?
