HO ALT not an option, what else can I do?

This is what i had in the car upto last month. was running stock electrical with about 2KWRMS, with the pedal to the metal for as much power as i could get out of the alt managed to keep voltage above 12.5 most of the time

Do you have room for a second alt?

If you do and are capable of fabricating something up then you could get a gm one wire alt at a much reduced cost to buy but not obviously to have shipped.

I dont have the room for a second alt, I really wich I did.

Is the 1 wire alt the kind that use an external voltage regulator? Or is the 1 wire a battery sense wire?

How big an alt will I need anyways? The way I calculated it was 4000W/13V=307A. Since my stock was 135A add that, so I would need 450ish?

If my stock alt is rated to do 135 A, how much do you feel it can safely be rewound to do, without getting into thermal problems?

Why cant you get XS power batteries? Is it a shipping issue.

3-4 of those would keep your voltage happy.

*just want to point this out- you said you dont plan on playing full tilt for more than 10-15 minutes. That is a LONG time if you are truly playing full tilt not just loud. You will not be able to do that no matter what unless you have enough alternator power to fully power your system without the aid of batteries. There are very few people who have set ups capable of that. They are the ones running 3-4+ HO alternators. Or they have a large alt on a low power system. Don't expect to be able to play that long.

But anyways, you are overthinking this. If you cant do an upgraded or second alt, move on. In my experience, a simple rewind is not worth it unless the alt is just worn out or you trust the company to take care of you if it does burn up.

Upgrade your batteries to the best AGM ones you can find in the area. Yes, XS power and all the name brand audio batteries are nice if you can get them (i run xs batts) but I personally know people running 10k plus off of a random mix of group31s that are not big name.

Get a nice batt under the hood and a big secondary in the back. Then see where you are at (make sure you have an accurate volt meter reading at the amp to keep an eye on this). If you feel like you need more add a second battery in the back.

After that if you still feel like you need alot more power try the caps. They will help alot for shorter periods of time but again, do not expect to be able to play a LONG steady base line full tilt still without more alt power.

Edit: seemed like i was telling you what you had to do lol. This is just how I would approach the situation if it was me, if you just want to try the caps for fun or go another direction go for it haha

maybe you could get an alt from a junk yard and see if singer can rebuild it. will still need a battery bank though.

I mean realistically, with the amount of money you're about to drop considering what part of the world you are in, would it not be easier to sell your current ride and pick up one more car audio friendly? Invest in the future and all that.

Unless i buy a ridiculously expensive SUV I will face the same no support problem. A used (2006-2008)Hummer H2 goes for anywhere between $100,000 to $150,000. ( Yes i have the correct number of zeros in there)

If i go with a car, a Honda Accord (2.4) is like $50,000

So what I think I am going to try is:( and really pray that shit works out)

1) Bulid myself a decent Battery Bank.

2) Buy Caps (or skip)

3) Try shoehorning a bigger alt.

The reason I have chosen that order is, I need a battery bank regardless of what I do. so that gets top priority and gets done first.

If the drop is minimal or mostly only on the bass notes, I will get myself a BIG cap bank. If the drop is high and sustained, I will not waste money on a huge bank, instead will only get a 370farad( mind you still quite a bit) cap bank.

Then I will have no option but to modify my alt or come up with some way to shoehorn a bigger alt into my engine bay.

Most vehicles have enough room for another alt under the hood without any work (not talking about mounting but just have enough room for 2). So if you could worst case scenerio, go to the dealer and get another alt, along with the bank of batteries, I would imagine that'd help. I'm not sure how many amps you actually do need but 150x2 would be less drop than 150x1. And I'm sure, if (another worst case scenerio) it required, could talk to singer about building you a bracket to mount both alts. Reason it'd be worst case is cause if the alt is different sized than in the states or whatnot, obviously need it custom built. And so plenty of emails back and forth or whatnot.

But either way, good luck man. Sucks that things can't be shipped or whatnot.

Suppose i do manage to fit another alt same as the stock one. My understanding of electronics tells me that they both WILL not put out the EXACT same voltage for a given rpm. In this situation how does load balancing take place? Or do my batteries act as a buffer of sorts?
