Older amplifiers and worn out capacitors?

i've had my punch 200a4 for a while. it was made about 12 years ago here in the US. i was curious as to how much of an effect aging capacitors have on the performance of the amplifier?

would there be any benefit of finding identical caps and replacing them?

Good question cause i have one that's older than a few members here.

My ppi was made back in 92 and still going strong so i don't know how long they can last but i guess it depends on how you treated the amp over the years.

A good way to find out would be to try it, caps are cheap.

i can always try it, but im afraid that i will screw the whole amp up by doing so. seems silly i know, but i got it for a steal and i dont want to have to get a new one on ebay lol

All depends on how much the amp has been abused in the last 12 years and what it was used for whether for just a mid n high amp or subs. The caps will make a difference on performance if they are getting week. Are they swollen at all or split at all . If you do need caps let me know cause there is a shop in my town that carries tons and tons of electronic parts. They had the caps for my old 500@2 except their caps are better than the factory ones.

As long as they're not blown or swollen to shit they should be fine.

Not really hard to change out the caps Kranny. As long as you have the tools to do it.

Have you seen some of the output tests I've done on 15+ year old DSM and IX amps? No power loss at all.

i have soldering skills, so im confident that i will be able to actually do it.

at the moment, i cant take the amp out of the car to inspect the caps
