Torres Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 pi * radius squared is just for the area of a circle. you gotta multiply that by the length of the cylinder, then divide by 1728 to get it in cubic feet
TylerParrish Posted September 10, 2012 Author Report Posted September 10, 2012 and don't take the volume of the 45 in the port out of the box. that doesn't factor into bracing displacement why doesn't that count towards bracing displacement? rockFord_Expedition Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 and the 45's weren't complete triangles The piece of wood you cut wasn't a triangle itself, but when placed in a corner you are figuring the volume it took away from the box since that area is sealed off and not "useable" by the SW. Edit: the triangle (triangular prism actually) is formed by the 90 degree corner and the surface that faces the inside of the box. That whole area is being displaced Old School/New School RF Build March 2015 SOTM Winner How to crimp large wire

Jessica Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 And if it is in the port, then it's not in the air space for the subs and doesn't count, if that makes sense. Jessica Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Something else i found is if you use the line tool and draw a line at the terminator of your port on the bottom of the enclosure you can select just the bottom of the box minus all the extra junk that is in there and get the area of that. Then multiply times height / 1728 and you should have your total cuft. It won't work for every box design so you may have to use some common sense to make it work. But it will save you some math. Captain Stupid Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Fill it with water, then empty water into a measured container, like a 1 cubic foot box. Of course, that method isn't very practical for a wood box that isn't protected by resin and waterproof. This method works really well for figuring the volume of a really odd fiberglass molded shape. 2006 Cadillac Escalade 2/3 drop on 28" wheels Two RE SX 18" subs RF T2500-1bdCP amp, 3531watts on birthsheet Custom carbon fiber sub box EVERYTHING else is stock, for now 149.4 @ 37hz, Termlab, dash, open window on two AQ3 18s all stock electrical, wired to .25 ohm on a RF T2500 148.8 @ 36hz, Termlab, dash, open window on one AQ3 18 all stock electrical, wired to .5 ohm on a RF T2500 147.8 @ 38hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on two RE SX 18s 146.4 @ 36hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on one RE SX 18 Link to my hack-built, stupid, carbon fiber wasting project.... http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/149946-carbon-fiber-box-update-1494db-37hz-on-tl/ http://gifsoup.com/NDM3MTc1MQ
Jessica Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 in that box you posted i would draw a line across the end of the port from the inside corner of the port wall (where it starts in the box) to the other port wall. Then you can just select the bottom of the box and get the area. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside.
