Captain Stupid Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 You're gonna love two 18s in your Navigator. I've got an Escalade that I just finished putting two 18s in...on only 1860 watts at 11 cubic feet and I'm loving it! Different subs, so my specs wouldn't help you any, but I'm glad I listened when others said subs up, port back. Good luck and take pics along the way and post them here! 2006 Cadillac Escalade 2/3 drop on 28" wheels Two RE SX 18" subs RF T2500-1bdCP amp, 3531watts on birthsheet Custom carbon fiber sub box EVERYTHING else is stock, for now 149.4 @ 37hz, Termlab, dash, open window on two AQ3 18s all stock electrical, wired to .25 ohm on a RF T2500 148.8 @ 36hz, Termlab, dash, open window on one AQ3 18 all stock electrical, wired to .5 ohm on a RF T2500 147.8 @ 38hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on two RE SX 18s 146.4 @ 36hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on one RE SX 18 Link to my hack-built, stupid, carbon fiber wasting project.... http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/149946-carbon-fiber-box-update-1494db-37hz-on-tl/ http://gifsoup.com/NDM3MTc1MQ

ChevyBoy95 Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 keep the port on the smaller side of the 12-16 sq in per foot and it will play a wider range usually. Like mine is tuned to 31hz, and plays down to 24 no problem and still plays 60s extremely well with 11.8 per cube. Captain Stupid Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Did you use mdf ? Lol....it would be easier if I just gave you the link to the build. The short answer is yes, 1.25" MDF. Blackedout Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 The lower FS of the 18s will naturally make them pick up lower notes a little more so than a smaller driver (IE... The current 12s you're running in your car). If you're not intending to play chopped and screwed music, I'd tune to 34 and call it a day. Sounds like you intend to play normal music. Playing mid to high 20s won't be an issue until you add more power. Going from a trunk car to an SUV, you'll be happy. Trunk Build Log
SnowDrifter Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Whatchu talking about Fs and lows? My 12s have a Fs of somewhere around 45hz and I peaked at 28hz, could jiggle balls at 24hz no problem and I was tuned to 30. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

I dont have a table saw so its impossible to cut good cuts. so you used 1.25" mdf single layer ? The only issue i worry is that it will be so heavy the air ride suspension will have issues. . 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee LaredoPioneer AVH- 3200DVD2/0 Flex-A-Prene Welding Cable (2) Fully Loaded Fi Sp4's dual 1-------> My YouTube Channel <------- Needs more power those woofers will laugh at that turd

My 12s have a Fs of somewhere around 45hz and I peaked at 28hz, could jiggle balls at 24hz no problem and I was tuned to 30. "fs: Driver free air resonance. The point at which all the moving parts of the driver sympathize or resonate. Resonance is a hard thing to explain simply, but a rule of thump is that you will find it hard to produce lower frequencies than the driver’s fs. So a driver with an fs of 60 Hz will not produce 35 Hz very well. A driver with an fs of 32 Hz will produce 35 Hz, if the box is tuned low enough. These two examples relate to closed, ported and bandpass cabinets, horns are less affected by fs as they use the driver as a piston." Every tangible object has a resonant frequency. Larger diameter drivers (generally) have a lower resonant frequency. Only exception would be a standard voice coil configuration on a larger sub vs an underhung voice coil on a smaller sub.
