Worth a recone?

I received a 12" FI BL from a buddy of mine off of the "Wall of Shame" we have going. He gave it to me free knowing I wanted to recone it and only asked that the next 12" I blow up goes to him to take the spot on the wall of shame. Sounded fair to me. My question is, is it worth the $135 for the recone kit(since this will be a learning experience)? I also was wondering what the difference is between the 2008 and 2009 model since there are different recone kits for the different models and I have no idea which mine is. Thank you in advance.

I would, except I'd buy an 18" basket then recone it, I mean the 18" recone is only like $15 more expensive...

i shook this one kids hand and it just folded in mine. long story short i fucked his girlfriendso.. yeah..

Yea man go for the recone. It's a nice sub and can get pretty loud. Reconing isn't that hard at all. We got some good reconing threads around here that describe it pretty nicely. I'll try and find one to post below. Have you checked the price of PSi's recones?

Here is one recone thread:

Here is a Fi BL that was turned into a 18. Originally was a 10" I believe. Gets loud for sure.

I briefly skimmed the recone thread that is pinned in the subwoofer/enclosure section once before and it seemed like a project i'd be willing to tackle. I'd love to go to an 18 but I have a regular cab truck I was going to put this in once it is reconed so I could put my 15 hdc3 in my jeep. Plans were for the AQ in the truck but I just feel like it would not have enough room to breathe the only way it would have proper airspace is building a box that's bigger than the space im willing to give up. So I figure the fi would take a little less and still bang and i could toss the AQ in the jeep in a proper size box. Thoughts?

I googled the psi recone and it took me to fixmyspeaker and I didn't see one for it right off hand, I think I'd have to contact them. Are their recones cheaper?

PSi and fixmyspeaker are both the same company. Also Im thinking it's around the same price maybe give or take $10. I'm not sure how much the BL recone is just by itself as SMZ2 sent his to them to be reconed. I would contact them and see what the price is. They are great people I have talked to them on a couple occasions. Also pretty fast to reply to your email.

Also go to the section of their website where you can build a custom woofer from lists of items. This way you can see the options they offer and you may want a few of those options on your recone although it would increase the price slightly.

Thank you. Decided i'm gonna take the plunge for sure, now i just have to find which recone to get whether it be psi or fi. And thanks for that pic/info.

So if I go through FI and have them send me the recone kit, how do I know which model to order?

Not a problem at all man glad I could help out. Maybe we'll see a thread pop up with some BL recone pics haha. Just talk to each company to compare them and go with the one you like the best. Hope the recone goes smoothly for you

**edit**

Tell them you have the BL and tell them the year model sub it is if you have that info. You could also upload some pics to photobucket and send them some pics of the woofer. They should be able to send you a recone just by knowing the size of the basket and that is a BL. Also you could measure the spider landing and send them that info. PSi or Fi should help you out with the model to get you the correct recone though.
