Any BSOD geniuses?

Recommended Posts

yeah sorry, but this dude has a fuckin back hoe and hes just digging as fast as possible.

the easiest way to disprove that its probably not the bonjour service is uninstall itunes and let the computer sit for 24 hours, or until it crashes.

I know what you're saying... TBH itunes is poop but hopefully he at least follows advice given.... The best is when you get a client PC and they instruct you on how to handle the problem they presented you with that they previously couldn't figure out.... hahaha... I'm glad I am no longer in corporate support anymore.... lmfao

orrrr.........

"hey cody, i have a question about my computer"

"alright"

"well, when i click on this intuhnet explorer icon thing, nothing happens and my computer gets a white screen, then it goes black"

"do you have anymore information about this problem?"

"i was searching and found that i might need to go into the registry and change this number thing"

"ok, its ill advised to do that, let me come pick it up and take a look at it"

"i think i got it figured out, im pretty sure its in the registry. bring a tool that works on the registry"

"ill have a look when i get there, see you in 28 minutes"

"alright"

28 minutes later...

"alright, what was your password to get into your computer again?"

"my email password?"

"no the windows login screen password"

"oh, apples123"

(has a password even though its just her in the house...........................)

"okay, thanks. now lets look at your problem"

"well double click intuhnet explorer and you will see it happen"

"(double clicks)"

"see there it is!!! the problem!!"

"oh, no ma'am thats just the page loading and the background of the page happens to be black"

"no you're wrong, when the page goes white then black theres a registry problem, i googled it."

"okay ma'am, well let me take a look at the registry then"

"good, thats what i told you to do in the first place!"

"well ma'am it looks like theres no problem in the registry, so your computer is good to go"

"im taking the computer to geek squad, you didnt fix the issue."

"ok ma'am that will be $75 and i'll be on my way"

"okay."

four days later.. geek squad charges $175 and i get a phone call saying nothing was wrong.

RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

i mean i love fixing computer problems.. but nottt when someones over my shoulder telling me how to fix it, i mean it would be fine if they knew anything about what they're doing.. but god DAMN.

Lol. I stopped some of my house calls because of that. Hahaha

Reminds me of my sister. Asked me what I thought was wrong, as to which I told her something. Said "Well the first problem is it's a Dell" "No, Dell is good. I've never had a problem until now." "Alright, second problem is you don't listen. Third is I think it's this"... she called this one place up who came and said it was her hard drive malfunctioning... it got corrupted or some shit so they'd replace it for her (for a charge of course) as to which she agreed. Then she asked me if they could get her files off the broken drive, "It depends how corrupt, how broke, how whatever the term you wanna use it is" "I don't believe you, I think they can" so she called and asked and they were able to. I'm by no means a computer expert... but she couldn't even figure out how to connect an external hd to her laptop... literally. "I plug the USB into the laptop and it's connected, good to go?" "No, you also have to plug it into the wall." "Well, where's that cord? it didn't come with one" "If it truly didn't, pack it up and return it and get another. Every external hard drive I've heard of has to be plugged into the wall for power. But I'd check the box first, just to make sure it's really not in there"... 5 mins later "Oh, it is in the box. So I plug that into the wall and it's good to go?" "No, then you plug the other cord into the hard drive and the other into a USB port, then it'll install, and then you're good" lol...

Uninstall iTunes and restart.

Let the computer sit for 24 hours WITHOUT TOUCHING.

Let it sit till it crashes.

Now earlier you said the computer was not overclocked , and now you say it was.

I'm not sure what vital information I'm missing now.

For in the future, please make a post saying what you've tried, computers is an area where you must know what's enabled and what's been attempted.

It is a process of elimination.

Sorry to clarify I hadn't OCed until Thursday, because it had been a week since it BSOD'd and I had been waiting for a while so I tried it out. I did the auto-OC in the BIOS but the system seems to use way more power than it needs for some reason? It wasnt getting frightening hot or anything, but it was hotter than usual even if I wasn't doing anything yet. Either way I set it back.

I also uninstalled itunes and rebooted last night around 1 a.m but I was busy reading so I never re-installed it and It has been on since then but hasn't crashed yet, should I just keep waiting? I hear alot of back and forth about leaving a computer on for long periods of time, I had left my old computer on for days at a time before and would go between sleep/awake for weeks without being rebooted and I never had a problem in 6 years with it. I try to shut down as much as I can but its not super often I....I always put it into sleep mode

(Start>Sleep) when I go anywhere and remember to do it, or else it does sit on in full power the whole time I'm gone. Is it worse for my parts to constantly be on(or in sleep), or to constantly start/shut down?

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

I've never heard that it harms a computer to be on all the time, as I leave my laptop on all the time when it's connected and also my desktop. My mother has had two computers and leaves them on. And I mean full power, not the sleep or hibernation. I go home and turn on my monitor and there's my desktop. I suppose it could be harmful to leave them connected to the internet, as easier to hack, spyware, adware, viruses, etc etc, but just from the power perspective, not really sure there's anything wrong with leaving them on. Sure, it does provide wear against the parts (that's like saying you leave your vehicle running all the time. Even though you aren't driving it, it is running and it'll wear stuff out faster) but computer parts don't generally fail that often. I mean my mom had one of her computers built in like '98. Still was working in '10. Was slow and had a few upgrades, but otherwise was on 24/7 for most of it's life. Then finally took a crap and she got a brand new one. And I generally try to reboot my desktop every weekend, as I hate the microsoft updates that reboot it while I'm not home or whatnot (I know I can turn it off, just don't haha). But it's been on 24/7 (except for me restarting it) since July I believe and works just as well as it worked a year ago. (I moved around July so ever since I got moved in, it's been on).

I let my server run 24/7 or until it crashes due to network traffic or too much for the disk to handle. (can't reveal what kind of server)

Your computer used to crash before you uninstalled iTunes and now it doesn't?

Has the problem been fixed?

Yea mine is basically always on, I hear that leaving it on just causes wear because itll always be at full power if its running, or at least 1/3 if sleeping. But then they say the expand/contracting of reboots is even worse. So I never know which is best. I look at it like a florescent lightbulb, leave it on and it could last longer.

And to the PC problem I think it may be too early to tell, sometimes it would go almost 2 weeks without a crash, and a few occasions it happened 2 times in a day. Its still been on since I restarted after uninstalling, but hasnt crashed yet. I don't know if itll get to be too much for the disk to handle because I dont have much on there, I'm only using about 20%, and the CPU always sits around 2% or up to 15% on a big load so far from what I've seen.

Actually a computer uses power dynamically.

It's not always running at 100%. In fact it's probably pulling 100watts from the wall.

same exact concept of your alt. it doesnt output 100% power all the time. it only outputs what the car needs, to a certain extent.
