KMS Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 I had my headunit's HPF set to off, then set the crossovers on the 4 channel to 80-100hz. I set my gains off a DMM and never had a problem with the mids and highs. I had the amp selection set to HPF. Alpine PDX-V9 Morel Tempo 6 Alpine SBR-S8-4 Alpine CDE 149BT
Skullz Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Depends on how your going to use it, if your going with an active set-up you will want to use the onboard crossover, and if your speakers are passive then set it to full pass on both front and rear. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Jessica Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 most 4 channels i've seen have either high pass or low pass on each channel. When i wired mine i used my band pass on my crossover for the mids and put them on channel "A" then high passed my tweets on channel "B". That way i could cut the tweeters back. It helped a lot in SQ in my opinion. You could pretty much do the same without an external crossover but you will probably need some way to keep the lows out of your mids to keep them clean, since most 4 channels you have to pick either low or high pass and can't do both. That may be a disorganized wall of text but i am drinking captn' and coke. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. RooTxBeeR Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Full does not mean both, it means full range. If you have 2ways, just run the HPF at the crossover frequency with the subs. Active is when each speaker is running to the amplifier, passive is when it is multiple speakers running through a crossover that from there goes to a single channel on the amp. RooTxBeeR Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 I don't believe there will be anything different in the two, only if you are running between two sets, the same power output and Db Slope. But let's say, you are running a 175.4 to 4 comp sets, 2 in front and 2 in back. Each channels power output would be split between the two speakers. Now if you run active, you can only do a total of 2 comp sets, and each speaker will receive the full channel output. I have seen from people, they say the Active sounds better. I am going to be running active in the future with 2 4 channel amps.
