It's a volume control. Set your gain then use the bass knob to turn it up when you need to let them know you're shit is LOUD!

He was taunting me. He's all like "come at me bro!" So I'm like "I'm coming at you bro!" And he's like "hey, fuck you" *chomp*. Then I killed it. I win.

From what I understand, which I can be wrong... it's another control for the output going to your subs. While yes, you do set your gains with your bass knob at 0, you turn your bass knob up therefore allowing more output from the amp to go into the subs, which increases their RMS... or an easier way to blow them if you don't know what your doin.

so does that mean if gain's are set right then the bass knob shouldn't make it clip? cause my friend with a BC2000D comes with a clipping meter in the knob and you can still make it clip from turning just the bass knob up. i could be wrong though, it's not my toy to play with lol

No. Being serious now, you set your gain with the knob all the way up then use the knob to "turn down" the subs when you don't want it so loud. When you want to turn up the bass you turn up the knob and if you're gain was set properly it won't turn up past where it was set and causing clipping.
