Great news for youtube video uploaders like us!

Its about time!! I was so tired of walking on eggshells even using music that i OWN or had explicit permission to use!

I know some of you have had video's taken down that didn't even have any copyright shit in it. One of the WORST things about being a youtube "partner" is that once they give (or gave) you a strike, you really had no way to argue it. Now at least you have another chance to appeal your case! I don't approve of uploading peoples ACTUAL songs but for what WE do with our systems, its kinda BS we get lumped into the copyright thing anyway, since we are helping drive their sales by showing everyone how hard their shit hits, or how good it sounds on our new mids/highs LOL.

if someone is making money by using copyrighted material that they dont have permission to use, and they finally get caught up to, then i dont understand how possibly defeating that is progress.

for people NOT gaining from it financially, then there should be no limitation. but partners should not be able to use copyrighted material without permission, and if they do and they get caught there should be no chance to defeat the accusation, and my opinion is they should be removed from youtube.

im sure someone will come along and crucify me for this post soon though. and im sure that whoever does it wouldnt appreciate someone else making money on something of theirs without their permission.

for people NOT gaining from it financially, then there should be no limitation. but partners should not be able to use copyrighted material without permission, and if they do and they get caught there should be no chance to defeat the accusation, and my opinion is they should be removed from youtube.

sure, if the artist feels that way. But if one of my favorite artists tells me to my face that they love my video's and want me to keep making them, it shouldn't be up to youtube to take the liberty to take it down.

hell look at what ray charles did. when he was offered a contract, he told them that if he didnt keep his own publishing rights then he wasnt signing.

yes, most of the people i tend to use do own their own songs. Usually the label also loves what we do and encourages us to do it. The only thing they don't like is when people upload the full version of the song, for people to steal. When we do demo's, thats not something that can be stolen and usually is so distorted nobody would want to anyway.

either way, i am happy. I don't get hassled anyway usually but i know for a fact that some of my friends had video's removed that didn't have ANY copyright shit in them at all. You should be able to defend youself when that happens. Even if you are Mr. Riaa, you have to admit its lame to get shut down for no reason and have no way to appeal your case.

I have a few videos where my stereo is playing and youtube tells me i have copyrighted content. I don't have any strikes, i just have to have ads next to my vids. Of course i don't monitize my vids either.

Yupp agreed with G in the fact that if you are a partner and get paid for your uploads and you upload a video of just the album artwork and the song then that is not right because many ppl use the YT to mp3 conversion but if you are just a normal member than it should be w/e, I'm just uploading the song to share the song, if ppl convert it by 3rd party means then thats another story that has nothing to do with the user.

Like Meade said using songs in bass videos, partner or not, should be allowed since it in no way sounds just like an mp3 of the song and tends to be distorted so you can't hear more than the bass anyways
