waterskipper32 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 What's up guys! I'm 16 and putting in my first system in my car, i've previously customized surround sound systems to accept high power subs but seemingly, this is different. I just bought 4 Hifonics HFX12D4 subs, a Boss CE2002 2000 watt 2- channel amp. (I tested the amp and it does give true watts) Anyways, my car is a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue with a 120amp alternator, will this power a consistent 1600 watts that my subs produce? Plus, I bought an 8ga wiring kit, is that sufficient? Cause I have no idea. Also, a poor man gets poor man system cause im poor! No hate please. Help, tips, and recommendations are greatly appreciated!
SnowDrifter Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 I didn't know subs produce 1800 watts Get yourself a volt meter and try to keep yourself above 12.6v. Do the big 3 in either 4 or 0 gauge. And wire the amp with 4 gauge too. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
That1Kid Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 How did you "test" the amp? No hate. Just curious. -98' Ford Expedition (Rest in Peace) -AVH-P3300BT -Crescendo BC5500 -4 18" DC m2 Level 3.
Maebros Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 8 ga wire might me a little bit small for that that much power. i wouldnt go anything smaller than 4. go bigger if you can its not going to hurt and will only make life easier in the future when you want to upgrade. waterskipper32 Posted October 23, 2012 Author Report Posted October 23, 2012 How did you "test" the amp? No hate. Just curious. I set my oscilloscope to Vrms, then set it just before it clips and it gives me 1000 watts @ 2 ohms, also yes the amp is a little under powered but oh well..
