BUILD: 2001 GMC Yukon XL

Hey all...

Looking to have small yet fun build in our Yukon ( family vechicle )...

Wanna keep if fun and simple ( LOL like that ever happens ) and around a $3500 ( budget i been given by the "boss" )

I have a few friends that are helping me out to keep things within "tolerance" so to say.

the route im taking is as Follows:

Head Unit: UNKNOWN ( still trying to figure out whatever i want to do the 02+ Double Din coversion or go with a Single Din unit )

Front Speakers: JL Audio Evolution C5-653

Rear Speakers: JL Audio Evolution C5-650x

Subs : 3x JL Audio 8W7 in a Custom HO Box designed by the boys at JL

Processor:

Needed ?? or Omit ?? ( guess its depending on the deck )

AMPS:

Front and Rear : Hifonics ZRX 1000.4

Subs : Hifonics ZRX 3000.1

Wiring and extras:

RCA's StreetWires ZN7's

Power wires: Dual 0 Gauge run from the battery to 2x Stinger SP680s.

Cap is a 20F digital and wiring and other power stuff from Cadence. ( bought them a few months back for a friend that never ended up paying me for them so might as well put them to use )

PS: I'm aware that the alternator and the charging system will have to be upgraded and looking at DB Electric 200-250A unit.

Main Goal: Keep the install stealthy and retain as much of the space as possible.

Amps and cap will be under the center row seating where I will take the a yukon shallow mount box and cut the top off and use it as a rack and hide all the amps only exposing the tops with a .5 to .75 gap for airflow. I will be using fans to force air into the box from each end in and out around the amps.

Finally, box will be bolted into the floor for permancence and theft prevention.

The subs aren't set in stone yet but looking for someting punchy and responsive.

I'm not going for SPL nor SQL here, but would like a bit of both as much possible, so any other Ideas welcome!

Shopping LIST:

Wiring and cap - I already have

Batteries - Optima Yellow Top ( Have ), Stingers $175 each

Alternator - DB Electric $250-350 ( depending on which on i go with - going to use the highest value in subtotal )

Amps - Roughly about $500 to my door ( Including S&H + Customs - yes... I'm in Canada )

Center Row Sub Box - $175 ( Including S&H + Customs )

Front Speaker Set - $400 from SonicElectronix

Rear Speaker Set - $350 from SonicElectronix

Subs - $315 from SonicElecronix

All this brings it to a rough total of $3070!

But there are always odd bits and ends that will bring up the cost like the box for the sub which i dont have yet specs on.

But not expecting it to be extremly expensive but it will mostly eat up my own time rather than a lot of my build $.

The JL Stuff i priced at worst case and scenario as I will most likely be able to score them for less...

first, the smd A pillar pods He made them, you will have to get someone with fabricating skills.

and in my opinion there are better things than db electric, optima, and jl audio.

why don't you stick around in the forum for a while, trust me you will learn so much, that you will be able to build a much better system probably spending less.

I also own a yukon xl, I still have my three rows completely functional.

my system is somehow loud and I spend way less than what your budget is.

Bro you def seem to have good intentions, but you'll be spending nearly 1k on the sub stage alone. That would be the first thing I would change. You can get more for less if you search around on this forum, trust me. That goes for your speakers as well, but if that's what your interested in then do it up. Yes they sound good, but for price/performance.. Just think about it.

I am glad you recognize the need for the HO alt, I wouldn't limit yourself to 1 company though. Call Mechman and dc to at least get a quote, then pick your best deal between the 3 as you can't go wrong either way.

x2 on reading more, you will be happier in the end and probably spend less than you would have on the jl set up. Also dont rule out buying used, I saved almost $400 on my amps by buying used, if you buy used you could get stupid loud on that budget. Welcome to the forum!

I worked as an installer many years back when Zapco, Orion along with Lightning Audio and Phoenix Gold were the top Players.

My first few amps were old enough that the weres hung out of them LOL

I've always been happy with JL products and had no issues with warranty or when shit went wrong so im OK with paying a bit extra for that, I know theres hertz, Morel just to name a few...

Either way... I was sneaky enough to sneak the deck in as a christmass present thats why its not on the list

Right now im gonna get the Box and the amps...

It always was almost like ritual in my books always to blow the factory speakers to kingdom come before the replacements go in

As of right now...

Thinking of 2 possible alternatives:

ALT1 -> A pair of RE MX12D1's

ALT2 -> EIGHT Sundown SA8's

ALT1 is winning by a longshot in the "best bang for the buck" department

Look into sa-8's and Digital Designs 8's, I think the 3500 model is the highest models that offer 8's from DD, but I could be wrong. DD has been compared to JL many times, saying that they are the newer, louder, and cleaner sounding form of jl, but for much less price wise because they are still relatively unknown to the general public. In other words, they aren't a household name like jl is. The only downside to dd subs is that they use paper cones, but for what u are looking to do, it wouldn't really ever be an issue, and as long as u buy through an authorized dealer or straight from the manufacturer (like I did), u will be completely covered. Their customer service is great too. Hell, u could even do 2 12" 3500 models for a lower price than what u are talking abould with those JL subs. Obviously, I'm a big fan of DD, but their products have never let me down. Just my $0.02...
